Nathan has a very light touch and his playing is very precise and solid. That Yamaha really has my attention. What a sound!!!

Dude is a great player. One of those session guys you've heard on hundreds of cuts and probably not known it was him.
That Yamaha sounds so good! I love the high-end snap without the glassy/shrill tweeter tone.
Played this song a million times in a wedding band. There was a moment around 2017 when it became dancefloor kryptonite.

Every time I hear a player with a light touch, I'm reminded how good it sounds.
(Laura Lee from Khruangbin is another great example)
I've tried to learn to lighten up my approach, but the punk and metal in my background seems to preclude playing the bass gently.
Touch all relates to what you're playing, so you're probably playing it right.
He's one of my favorites. It gets thrown around often with players like him, but it is amazing how effortless his playing looks. Meanwhile, when you try to duplicate it, it is anything but.

I love that line - but I think my favorite from him is Footloose. That's a beast to play - but really fun!

I’m in no way hangout partners with him, but I’ve spoken with N8 several times over the years, and he remembers my name. He’s also very passionate about flying planes, sharp men’s fashions, and magic tricks.
Very nice fellow, one of those “speak softly but carry a very big stick” guys. Luck and ability can get you in certain doors, but personality and people skills keep you in the room. His 40 year career at the top of a very tall and narrow pyramid is testimony to this.
An arranger friend mine hired him for a few projects a number of years ago. He read down some active parts with all the feel, sound and soul he’s known for and they got a take in a few passes. N8 wanted to go back and fix something that only he could really hear and they were pretty much done. Total pro.

He sounds great no matter what he plays, but Yamaha basses are under rated for sure. I have a couple from the 90's - an OG Nathan East and a TRB5. They are fantastic.

I had 48 hours to put this one together for a sub job. One of those songs where you wish you got paid by the note.
I've cued it to the stop. The double stop nearly killed me.
