National SG style bass guitar.

I was just looking in my basement and found an old bass guitar tucked away behind a bunch of junk my dad had. It's a National bass guitar, I'm guessing 60's, and has an SG style body.

Does anyone know anything about these guitars? I'm not even talking prices here, I just can't find this guitar online ANYWHERE, and am just kind of curious when it was made, etc... Any info would be much appreciated!

I'm sorry to see no one responded to your post. My husband also has a National Bass and I have not been able to find ANY information on it. (I'm the researcher in our house) Have you had any luck since you posted?

I know this is not much help but I bought a used one from a class mate in 1977 or 1978 in San Diego so they are least that old. By the way, it had a small chip in the edge.

I play my Father's National bass that he purchased in the early 70's. I know the timeline because he was playing a stand-up and was tired of hauling it around to gigs so he replaced it with the National. This particular model is just the run-of-the-mill bass. There is nothing special about it. The only indication it is a National is that it says "National" on the top of the neck. There are no other markings. Knowing my Father, he wouldn't pay top-dollar for anything so I'm sure he was very economical, if not cheap, when buying this bass. It is functional though and I enjoy playing it because he played it. It brings back memories. I just wish he hadn't sold that stand-up.

I have one. I got it from a pawn shop in Concord California in 1985. I've made some mods on it but will never sell it so. I'm happy with it. From my research, I've found that mine is probably circa 70's and made in Japan. I read originally they sold for less than $200. They're a short scale bass. Back then short scale Bass was considered a "student guitar", 30" vs the full scale 34".
Mods: ivory nut, new keys, new volume/tone controls.
Currently, looking for a chrome bridge cover.
