Natural Bongo?

05_15_Bongo6_h_1st_proto.jpg

The proto for the sixer was natural.

If I can say this without people thinking I'm a Bongo basher, I've never really liked how they look. Part of it is based on the body shape but part of it is that I really love naturals and sunbursts and they're not available in those finishes. That's not a criticism of the bass, just my personal preference, same as those who don't like the looks of the Precisions, Jazzes, and Stingrays I love. However, I have played a few in stores I think they sound and feel fantastic.

I think that natural 6-string looks really nice. If a natural (or better yet, a sunburst!) was available I'd seriously consider a Bongo for my next purchase.

It's interesting to see those natural ones, are they basswood too? As has been said, basswood is usually finished over because it's not much to look at in terms of grain...and it sometimes has a slight greenish tinge to it too!

I had the pleasure of seeing Dave LaRue play live with Joe Satriani, and he was using Bongos all night. It sounded pretty amazing!
