Well here's the Burks analysis:

COACHING: Greg Popovich is the best coach in the NBA, He out-coached LB in their last finals appearance and LB is a very good game/series coach. Mike Brown is a Popovich disciple and a good coach on the defensive end, offensively he appears to me to be unimaginative, although he's gotten better. And his in game play calling is average. Advantage San Antonio

OFFICIATING: After the last finals where the Miami Heat had three extra players in striped shirts on the court whose job was to send DWade to the line as often as possible this is an issue (it shouldn't be). Cleveland had a huge advantage against Detroit, this will probably not happen against SA. Popivich knows how to work the officials and Ginobli is a good actor unlike Verflopaho for Cleveland. The interesting match-up will be Bowen on James, if Bowen gets in foul trouble and James outside shot is falling, SA will be in a world of hurt. Sight Advantage Cleveland

POWER FORWARD: Tim Duncan against Drew Gooden, your kidding, right? Drew Gooden can not guard Duncan, and Duncan will not get in foul trouble guarding Gooden. Not Even Close: San Antonio

CENTER: Francisco Ellison and Oberto against Ilguskis and Verflopaho. Ellison and Oberto are kind of a mixed bag, without Duncan on the court their journeymen at best. Ilgaskis impressed me the last series with his offensive rebounding and could create some matchup problems with his ability to go outside, but he's a pylon on defense. Verflopaho could have a tough series, the officials are onto his game, and he's not defending Rasheed, He'll get very few calls when Duncan, Parker or Ginobli is the offensive aggressor. Advantage: Cleveland

SMALL FORWARD: Lebron James verse Bruce Bowen. Bruce Bowen is the Dennis Rodman of his era without the rebounding skills, Rodman is his prime was a great defender. Bowen appears to have problems with stronger opponents, and he loves to clutch and grab on screen action. His extracurricular stuff could get interesting. Lebron will not have to expend any effort on D against Bowen, a huge plus. Advantage: Cleveland

SHOOTING GUARD: Sasha Povlivich against Manu Ginobli. Ginobli has stepped it up for the playoffs, and is a far different player then his mediocre regular season. The only way Povlivich will be a factor is if James is drawing double and triple teams with a huge shooting night. I expect Ginobli to spend a lot of time at the foul line. Advantage: San Antonio

POINT GUARD: Larry Hughes and Daniel Gibson against Tony Parker. A week ago I would have said, huge advantage SA. But then Daniel Gibson was endowed with super powers.:D Neither player is a traditional point guard, this actually hurts SA more as Lebron acts as the Cavs point guard. But Parkers ability to penetrate and finish will be a nightmare for the cavs, Hughes is playing with a severe injury and wasn't the fastest point guard before, and Gibson will get a rookie whistle against SA. Advantage: San Antonio

INTANGIBLES AND BENCH: I put these together because of these teams have a couple of positions (more with the cavs) where they don't have clear starters. For instance Gibson will likely get starters minutes as a reserve, and Horry will probably get the bulk of the fourth quarter minutes at his position. The key bench players for Cleveland are Verflapaho, Gibson, Marshall, Jones and sometimes for D. Snow. For SA it's Horry, Findlay, Barry and Vaughn. I suspect Verflopaho who always plays well against Detroit will have a tough go of it against SA, especially on the road, I also feel SA will be at an advantage when Snow is on the court because he's not an offensive threat. Marshall and Jones are useless on D and only factors if their often ill advised threes are falling.

For SA Horry has come on of late and I expect him to hit some big shots, This is Findlays first finals and he wants a ring bad, either he'll light it up or his Dallas heritage will come through and he'll choke big time.:p Vaughn and Barry, Uughh!!! They don't belong in the NBA. Vaughn, doesn't take care of the ball well and can't shoot, the ideal point guard!:eyebrow: And Barry couldn't guard his shadow, although he will compete with Jones and Marshall for lofting ill advised threes, The more minutes these guys get the less their teams chances. Gibson, Findlay, and Horry are the X-factors. The other factor is, Is Cleveland more satisfied in getting past the Detroit hurdle then winning the finals? Advantage San Antonio

PREDICTION: San Antonio in Six

hey, at least it's not spurs/pistons.

Yeah, who wants to see great team basketball. This IS the NBA, right?

I can't believe the call's that Lebron got in the conference finals. It's really lame that regardless of contact, a Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, or Dwayne Wade can penetrate the lane and seemingly get a whistle just for doing so. That's not basketball. I want to see the officials let them play. If Lebron is the next Jordan (he isn't), don't you think he could make due without all the soft calls?

admittedly, i haven't been watching very many games since the warriors got eliminated, but i did see rasheed wallace getting "all wrist" on a block attempt on lebron without getting called for it. the only preferential treatment i witnessed with lebron was the non-call on what in my estimation looked like a travel when he dunked one time.

He does seem to get a vast majority of the calls when he drives. He has this football move where he lowers his shoulder to "initiate contact", if Chauncy did it, it would be a foul most every time. The thing that bugged me about the last game was by the end of the first half the score was tied, I counted five clearly missed foul calls when Piston players (the announcers commented on each of the plays) were shooting and Cleveland had been to the line 31 times to the Pistons 15! Where Lebron really got away with murder was on the defensive end, he didn't have one foul called on him till the fourth quarter. Thats just strains credulity. I'm not sure this will happen to the same extent against SA, though.

you are all just hating on LeBron and Cleveland cause You're from Detroit. Deal with it, you lost.

Cavs vs. Spurs this season, 2-0 Cavs. Enough said.

Cavs 4-2 in the Finals Series is my bet.

I don't hate Lebron, I certainly don't blame him for the lousy officiating, which the NBA has had for about fifteen years. And I don't blame the officiating for the Pistons loss. But why do you think the Cavs are going to beat the Spurs? Do you have any reasons, besides the season record? The Pistons beat the Cavs 3-1 in the regular season.

the Cavs are on a hot streak right now. they just won 4 straight (one in double OT) and have a lot of Momentum going. I think they match up real well with the Spurs and even if they double team LeBron, other players (Gibson, Hughes, Z) will step up and produce the points. I also like the fact that the Cavs run 1 (yes 1) play on offense, and teams still can't stop them. If it ain't broke (or is it baroque?:D )

And if everyone's worried about LeBron not liking physicality, don't worry, I'm sure Bowen and company will throw many elbows and get physical with him.

I realize the Spurs have the advantage with being champs already and having been here before, but I think the Spurs ship has already sailed and I think they are on the descent (much like the Pistons).

The Spurs beat the Nuggets with Carmello and Iverson, who were one of the hottest teams gong into the playoffs. They beat the Suns, who are the best running team maybe ever in the NBA. They beat a Utah team with a great point guard and excellent post-up game. Do you honestly think they can't slow down a Cleveland offense that didn't score one hundred on the Pistons in regulation one game of the series? If the Cavs win it will not be because of their offense. That one play is a problem against a coach like Popovich, unlike Sanders, his players listen to him and he knows how to make adjustments during a series. I also think Bowens going to have tough time with Bowen because the officials probably won't let him get physical.

On the face of it, Cleveland has absolutely no chance, as they are outmanned at every position except Lebron and Z, and I'll be surprised if Tony Parker doesn't shred whoever the Cavs put on him. OTOH, that's what makes it great, since I thought they had no chance against Detroit either, and look what happened...Detroit completely fell apart. Whoda thunkit?

I must admit, it will be interesting to watch Verflopaho and Giflopili in the game at the same time, if only to compare flopping techniques. Any way it goes, I'm going to enjoy watching two good defensive teams go at it in the finals. :hyper:

The only chance the Cavs have is if the Spurs decide to mail it in like the Pistons did, and even then it's not a great chance. James is good enough to win a game all by himself, and the Spurs aren't about to let the supporting cast get anything easy.

The Spurs have played sixteen games against three of the top teams in the NBA and have only lost four times. Cleveland isn't going to double that win total in seven tries unless something really bad happens to San Antonio.

Spurs in five.

This is a derailment, but I have this suspicion that the Pistons won their championship in 2004 in spite of Larry Brown.

I'm not trying to knock Brown's record. He's had much playoff success. I just think that the Pistons players know what their collective identity is, and they don't need a coach to tell them about it, even if his philosophy meshes with that identity.

I'm not sure if that makes them a problem team or not.

The Pistons got swept out of the playoffs by New Jersey during Carlisle's final year. They went to the finals twice with Brown, almost winning both against far better teams and then they've gone back to their overconfident, underperforming ways with Flip. Funny how Larry Brown doesn't get the credit he deserves for turning that bunch of misfit prima donnas into a cohesive unit for the two years he was there. Of course he was sick of them by midway through the second year...
