NBA finals

SAS would be okay if he would quit YELLING!
I actually like Stephen A. on the show "First Take," but I think of him as a comedy act. Don't get me wrong - he's smart and he knows his stuff. It's just that he's become so over-the-top that it's become his schtick. He's the Sam Kinison of sports talk TV!

I do think he knows his stuff, but it’s always about him. I understand it’s an opinion show, but he is so self centered and self congratulating in his delivery it’s just unwatchable. Bill Simmons does a lot of great NBA content with provocative opinions, but the content is still about the NBA and the players, not about him.

for once I like both teams

I was just commenting to someone the other day that this is the first time I can remember -- certainly the first time in several decades -- that I don't have a personal favorite in the outcome. Celtics have been one of my favorite teams ever since the Bird/McHale/Parrish days...in fact, it was watching those Celtics that taught me to enjoy NBA basketball. And the Golden State Warriors have been my favorite team for this past decade, because they play so selflessly, which imho is one of the most admirable (and rare) traits in a competitive athletic event. (Which is why the San Antonio Spurs are my third favorite NBA team of the past ~40 years.)

So these 2022 NBA Finals are win-win for me! Any outcome, Imma be stoked!

^^^This. Nothing makes me mute or change the channel faster than the merest glimpse of SAS. There are other sports commentators who get on my nerves (Rex Ryan comes immediately to mind), but SAS is at the top of the list.

Celts made far too many careless turnovers

I've been texting all morning with a group of old college friends/Celtics fans from Boston, one of whom begged us not to reveal the outcome of the game because he swears he's not going to read any news today and watch the DVR'd replay tonight. So my contribution to the ribbing that ensued was "Spoiler Alert: Turnovers are not just a fruit pastry."

Another guy chimed in with "Spoiler Alert: Bricks are not just a masonry material."

I was happy with the outcome because I want a long series. I didn't get to watch much of the game, though, because of two long phone calls that I had to take. By the time I got off the phone and could watch the game it was over and the subs were in. I'm hoping for a Golden State win on Wednesday so they get home court advantage back.

Warriors really brought the intensity in the 2nd half and Celtics didn’t. Celts made far too many careless turnovers, failed to get into the paint, and their role players largely disappeared. Looking forward to game 3.
Did the role players for Boston not score like the night before because the Dubs were executing better defense? Or was it some other reason? Same on the other end of the court. Did the Dubs execute a plan to overcome the excellent defense of the Celts or was it some other reason?

I think it was a bit of both. Some of the Celts' errors were forced, but they also hit a lot of second serves directly into the net. Game 2 in the 3rd quarter looked like game 1 in the 4th quarter, only in reverse: good competitive game up to that point, then one team mentally left the building when the other one stepped up.

The Dubs are know for their third quarter surges and the Celtics are known for their third quarter slumps.

Between the ridiculously lopsided games, and SAS, I'm still looking for the moment where the NBA playoffs are anything other than suck.

The refs blatantly making calls based on situation and NOT infraction, and SAS screaming his fool head off defending it, is all I need to know to deem the season over in our house. Had enough showboating and taunting by a bunch of petulant billionaire toddlers for the year, both on the court and in the booth.
