NBA Playoff thread 2012

Leggo LakerNATION

Rise up ClipperNATION

LA representing in the playoffs this year. #hallwayseries

As far as flopping is concerned you guys have to look at it as part of the game. The officials aren't as dumb as you think. If you actually pay attention to who is referring the game you would realize that the NBA only uses a very select group of people. Meaning that the refs and players know each other on a first-name basis. The refs KNOW who flops a lot and they make calls based on past experiences with players.

I didn't see yesterday's game, I'll have to catch the next Heat/Pacers game. I've heard reports of flopping, but I wonder how much of this is real as opposed to being part of the "I must hate the Heat" mantra many fans have retained from last year. I also heard the Pacers were doing some hacking, which makes sense given the talent disparity.

Thanks for starting the thread, Chris! I'm a Laker fan, in spite of being in some fairly hostile territory here in Colorado :)
I am curious why you (and SO many others!) root against Kobe and Wade yet seem to have a soft spot for the Celtics' "last hurrah for the former big 3." I have a ton of respect for Ray Allen, but I am glad my young son is not watching when I lip-read what Garnett is saying to the opposing players :)
As much as I root for the Lakers, if I had to put my money on it, it's not likely they can get past OKC and the Spurs this year.

But let the games continue!

... Stoked to see the Lakers scraped it together and closed the Denver series. Find it hard to believe they'll make it past the next round.

Yeah...I can't see them getting past OKC either. Looks like boht LA teams may be making a 2nd round exit this year

:eyebrow:

Okay, none of you guys can ever be in charge of giving up the ship! :p

That's a good question. Probably because I was a Celtics fan as a kid and am also a fan of Doc Rivers as a coach. Plus, it always seemed to me that the Lakers were like the NY Yankees of the NBA - way more talent than any other team by a mile, but they would always play just hard enough to win and no more. Or it could just be the childhood sentiment returning...

Speaking of which perhaps I should do an honorary bump of the last wager in which there are a few people that still haven't paid up.
STILL??? Jesus that's a joke. Why bet if you can't (or worse: won't) pay up??? I've sent you AND Gard beer on lost bets, and would never screw you guys over.

We should start a thread on the TB weasel crew. We just need to inlcude kserg because he hasn't paid off our bet and it's been over five years now! :scowl:

Yeah seriously. I would have gladly continued the tradition this year (and probably lost my shirt), but after having most people NOT paying up, I said f it. I really do appreciate the fact that you guys actually honor your bets.

Meanwhile, the Lakers continue to get their @$$ handed to them.

Pacers win 78-75, late chances doom Miami

This is getting interesting.

Yahoo article said:
"Wade was steaming when he missed a shot after trying to create contact with Indiana's Dahntay Jones with 9:53 left. As Wade argued, Jones went the other way and set Leandro Barbosa up for a score that put the Pacers up 63-56."

Roger, Houston, we have proof of justice in the universe. Repeat: universal justice proven. :hiding:

Last, if Wade hadn't been so busy trying to flop-&-flail on that last layup, it would have had a lot better chance of going in. Good on the refs for the no call. This isn't 2006.

Too me, no team in history was less deserving of an NBA title than that 2006 Heat team. They had Antoine Walker, perhaps the biggest waste of money any NBA franchise ever had getting major minutes, along with Jason "white chocolate -I never play defense" Williams.

They got major minutes from Alonzo Mourning who simply decided not to play for the NJ Nets after receiving a huge contract, if Stern had any integrity he would have demanded that Mourning pay back the huge dollars that NJ was still playing him while he snuck in with a mid-level exception under the cap for Miami. This was another of Sterns sniveling moves to hand the title to a big market team while bending the rules of the cap (similar to the Paul Gasol trade and the Bulls getting #1 in the lottery when Rose was available).

Granted the alternative Dallas Mavericks choked. But the fact is Wade flopped and Shaquel offensive fouled their way to an NBA title.
