This one is a light relic starting with an MJT swamp ash P body finished in vintage blond nitro. The neck is a '97 MIM. Pickups are vintage '58's and the bridge is a Badass II. All in all, it weighs in at under 8 3/4 lbs. So far so good. MJT really has a knack for making realistic relics as you can see in the last two pictures.

Ultimately, I might turn this into a '58 reissue replica with a thick maple/maple neck and a gold anodized pickguard and a vintage bridge, but we'll see.

Any reason for the placement of the bottom strap button so high up towards the front arm bevel?

It tends to balance better with the button a little higher than center. The body is fairly light at under 4.5 lbs. If I decide later to use a lightweight bridge, it could become a factor.

Great idea, some of MJTs bodies are SO light I have had to use heavier brass bridges instead of aluminium just in order to balance better!

As planned, I redid this bass completely and turned it into a fairly accurate '58 clone. I used the same body and electronics, but replaced the neck with a Fender Classic '50s maple neck with Gotoh vintage-style Resolite tuners. This neck specs out pretty much like a late fifties Fender neck. I added a '58 gold anodized pickguard and replaced the bridge with a Fender vintage bridge. Chrome covers, tugbar, done. The weight is awesome at 8 lbs 3 oz loaded with two chrome covers. In the form I'll actually play it without the pickup cover, it's at 8 lbs 1 oz. No covers, it's a svelte 7 lbs 15 oz.

This is definitely one of my favorite yet. Very resonant and is actually fun to play unplugged. This configuration stays.

Congrats! That looks amazing and will just get better with time. The "skirts" and anodized guard take it to a whole new level of coolness.

I love the MJT stuff. There are sometimes great bargains available if you follow MJT's ebay auctions. He almost always has some ready-made bodies up for sale there.

I like the look of the covers, but the pickup cover goes away when I actually play it.

That's how I like my wood grain! Straight! Great joinery too. On the front it looks like a one piece. But, look on the end and you see it's a two piece. Looks awesome.
