Picked up this fantastic beast today!

All original custom color jazz in candy apple red! There is no words for how good this thing sounds!

Edit: My mistake, I read this as a 70' and not a 64' J bass.

Heck yeah! I played a ‘64 one time, and I totally get how awesome they sound. I played a bunch of instruments that day, and I kept coming back to that ‘64. Not only did it sound great, it played amazingly well, too!

Yeah - I have a 68 J which plays nice too (it’s been my #1 for several years) - but this is a whole new level!

Beauty. Someday I need to get a Jazz and after reading Geddy's Big Beautiful Book of Bass, I keep thinking it would be great to be able to get a '64 (my birth year). But with the prices of vintage instruments these days, it may be a pipe dream...

That's awesome. I wonder what caused all the wear towards the top of the pickguard? I've sometimes seen people pluck way up there but maybe it was from pick storage or something.

That looks like thumb wear to me. Many years sliding his plucking hand up and down to get the tone he wanted for the songs. If he used a pick, he'd stick it under the PG below the tug bar side for easy access.
