Had to! A local '66 in the color you want does not come by every day. And for the deal he gave me, I'd say never. I wouldn't have gone for any Custom Shop over it because you can always order those.

The crazy thing is it has a pre-CBS body and post-CBS neck. I don't know if I've ever seen that.

Awesome score! Gotta love aged Olympic white. Here’s my 83 for comparison.

That LP Special is my #1 :) It's a 1955 I bought a few years ago. Thankfully, right before the prices skyrocketed. I've never played a guitar that feels or sounds as good as that one. I'm very lucky to have it.

Years ago I was working with a team from the UK. They found out I hated bagpipe music so at one point during a phone call they put me on hold and played bagpipe music. My first though was what a poor choice for music on hold. Then I realized they were targeting me. :)

Just for curiosity's sake, I was checking out on Reverb what vintage P's were available. I see this one, message the seller, and it's the same person who was selling me the cab! I mean... what?? I can't even wrap my head around the odds of something like that happening. Sometimes the universe gives you a heavy nudge to go for something. So I did!

The neck plate (which doesn't have an F) is dated to 1965, so are the pots. But the neck stamp is dated to 1966. It has a Brazilian RW board. All electronics are original.

It originally came with a tort pickguard that wasn't original. I've always wanted an olympic white and mint green combo so it was fun to try since I wasn't replacing something original. The mint is maybe a little too pistachio though haha. It's a little trippy looking being that green and the finish being so yellow. So I may try a lighter guard at some point. The custom tort guard he ordered is really nice so there's always that.

The pickup cover was missing. But I found a 1960's cover that came off of a Kay bass. It seems identical to what came on the Fender's. It's squared off the same way and the hole spacing is the same. And luckily, had the same wear as the original bridge cover. Nice to get something from the same era for a fraction of the price.

But most importantly, it is a mean playing and sounding instrument. I cannot believe the sound of this thing through the V-4B. He originally had tapewounds on there. Never played those before but I kind of loved it. They're really easy to play on and had this gurgly punch to them. I put flatwounds on there because I just had to try that out. But I really like both.

I'm not usually a big fan of mint guards or yellowed white but it seems that when put together it's much better than I would've ever thought it would.

Pre-CBS body & CBS neck. Talk about a transition model!:D

I have one of those too and I'm liking the V-Mod about as much as you are. Otherwise it's very very good. The best P-Bass I've had to date.:thumbsup:

I'm going to switch the pickup halves around first and see how that sounds before I try a replacement. I think that putting A2 magnets in the bass side and A5 on the treble side is madness. If anything, it should be the opposite.

A2 on the treble side should mellow the top a bit and A5 on the bass side ought to tighten up the bottom and get rid of that mushiness that is really pissing me off with the stock A2 setup. I'm not normally nitpicky at all but if there's something I can't stand in my tone it's a mushy bottom end.

Apparently someone on here gave it a try and was pleased with the results so why not?

Maybe give that a try first?
