NBD - 1973 Rickenbacker 4001

Well, I was born in 73 so it seems fitting that if I'm going to enter the Ric world (never owned one in the 25 years I've been playing) that I should get a birth year bass.

One owner, a drummer who never played it....got the original reciept, case is original and in amazing condition, and it weights 8.9lbs. I'm stoked!!

Picked it up from Kebosbassworks. He grabbed it from another dealer who said it was bought by a drummer then put under the bed. There isn't a scratch on the front or the neck and only very small scuffs on the back. Reciept shows Feb 74 it was bought in Chicago. That said, it's a hellava bass! Sounds killer, is light, neck is perfect with super low action (in fact I need to lower the bridge pup a little, getting a pop on the G string because it hits) Pictures taken from the dealer, but this is the bass!

It's probably a coincidence, but my 73 is a MI number, bought new. I wanted to order it and was told a year wait. The music store called a week later and said there were 2 at a guitar show in Chicago, and I could choose black or burgundy. I chose burgundy. Could yours be the black one? I have never seen a "new" version 4001 with a number lower than mine.
