Wow! that is in great shape for a 40 year old bass! BTW I reccomend DR Neon white strings on a jetglo (see avatar). '70s Ricks are the best ricks!

NBD - 1973 Rickenbacker 4001

It sounds and feels too good to not play.......I don't want a "look but don't touch" instrument, but I will be watching it and trying not to scratch it.......again, I love it playing it in my living room, but I loved the 68 Tele I just got rid of too.......live setting is a totally different beast and my guess is this is going to work just fine!! I'll report back after practice!!

Ok, finally got this to practice yesterday!! We had so many March/April/May shows that we took a little break.........

So, I'm a P bass player, always have been.............but, this Ric kills!! I love the tone, I love the playability and the comfort (immediately took off the pickup cover, what a terrible spot for it). The thing cuts like you'd expect.
The little things I had to get used to:
Painted Neck: Slippery when ya sweat
Playing with a pick: Volume is even, not really able to "dig in" with a pick like you can on a pbass, not a big deal, just a different approach
Playing with fingers: Man that bridge pickup surround is high, I have my action set low and the strings kept hitting the surround and "popping" (not sure what to do about this?)
Output: lower that my pbass, but with a master volume change on the amp I didn't need anything else when switching between the two basses
Most of the things I found "different" were just about changing approach to playing...........I am POSITIVE this is a keeper and can't wait to get some more time...............Oh, and playing chords is too much fun, it just sounds so good!!

That does look sweet.
Do some reading (if you have not already) about things to look out for with the 4001 - back in the day, the word was you never wanted to put stainless steel strings on a 4001 - the neck could get damaged. I honest don't know how true that is, but it's telling that the 4003 has a MUCH chunkier neck section at the nut.
Anyway, enjoy - it looks great.
