NBD: 1998 Squier Precision Bass Made in Mexico

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share a bass I just picked up. It is a 1998 Squier Precision Bass that is Made in Mexico and it is in great condition. I got it for $200 CAD so $150 USD and it came with a SKB hardcase. I would say that is a pretty good deal. In my area (Toronto) used affinitys were going for at least $150 CAD (112.59 USD) without a case.

Mini Review:

I am no expert but I have been trying many different basses in the last several months so this review should be taken with a grain of salt. It is not as good as my friends MIM Fender P-Bass but it is better than any affinity I have tried. The only issue is the 12th fret on the A string has a little buzz that I can make go away by playing a little less sloppy (I'll fix it when it becomes a bigger problem). I am not going to pretend that this is some gem squier, as much as I would love it to be but it does that job as far as getting me a decent quality bass with the signature precision sound. I would put it a slight notch below the brand new VM and CV's I've tried but they are over $500 in Canada.

So, I am wondering what you guys think of the deal I got, and what are other people's experiences with these Basses?

Better than an affinity, comes with hard case, signature precision sound? That's a steal of a deal my friend! So is this your answer to the epiphone upgrade?

FWIW learning fretwork, electronics, setup and neck refinishing helped me get my affinity to a point where I dont even want to replace it with a fender player. Little elbow grease goes a long way! :thumbsup:

Thanks for remembering! No, this is not my upgrade, just a deal I wanted to take advantage of while I was looking for a case. The upgrade is another story (or nightmare). Let's just say today will be the second time I have to take it to the guitar shop. I was going to write a post about it when the issues have finally been resolved. Unfortunately, I learned few hard lessons in buying used instruments.
