NBD 2004 Fender American jazz bass

Just got this today. Ordered from Guitar Center. I offered $567.00 on a whim to the store manager and well here it is.

2004 Fender American Series Jazz
Rosewood neck. Black with black pg.
S1 switch.

First impressions:
Looked much better than I thought it would. Plays very nice. Sounds awesome. I used to have a 2005 Highway 1 and this sounds much stronger and the S1 switch gives it a funky deep punchy sound to change things up.

Follow up observations on 2004 American Series Jazz Bass after messing with it for a week.

This bass is a little on the heavy side. About 10.2 lbs. I took off the pickguard and this one has the cylinder hole drilled in it about where a thumb rest would be. I re-strung thru the top side of the bridge instead of thru the body and I think it sounds better. Pickups provide a clear no feedback deep tone. Stays in tune well. I am a little disappointed in the balance of the body when you play it on your lap. A little top heavy. No neck dive. Probably not as nice as the 2014 model but for $567 it will do just fine.

I string all three of my American Standards through the top. I think it sounds better too.

Does anybody have links to information on the 2003 thru 2007 American Series Jazz? I guess I'm a bassnerd but I love reading details and reviews of guitars I already have. What's up with that. By the way I really continue to like this bass more everyday. Thanks for the kind remarks so far.

.. the American Series name was used from 2000 through 2007 ... the S-1 switch was added mid to late '03 for the 2004 model year, that was the biggest single change for the entire run of the series ... there were some smaller changes (bridge, case offered, and color offerings) through the run, but pups and other hardware remained the same ... what else would you like to know, I may be able to help ??

when you say 'new ones', I assume you mean the current American Standards?... bridge, machine heads, pups, are all different ... of course the S-1 is gone, and current finish is a little thinner, and a bit more attention has been paid to fretboard supposedly ... case offered has evolved a few different styles since the AmSeries .. and of course some color offerings are different ... AND, the street price is about $500+ higher than the earliest AmSeries ... most will say current offering is of better quality, but with that said, it probably depends what you own ... ;)
