NBD - 2012 Fender American Standard Precision

Okay, so...

In an effort to begin to consolidate and upgrade my bass collection I've been hunting for some "staple basses". A Fender American Precision was always number one on that list. I've been searching Reverb and Craigslist, and saving to reach the goal. Out of the blue, I went to Craigslist tonight and saw, "posted one hour ago" and I immediately got in contact with the seller.

Her friend owned a music store that closed down and he gave her a couple of instruments. She picked this one out and never played it for about four years before deciding that she just didn't want it around the house anymore. I talked her up, yes UP to $700 with the case. It still has all of the case candy and the plastic over the pickguard.

I'm honestly still in shock, but I'm now the owner of a Fender American Precision Bass.

Great find man! One of Fender's best overall products of the last 20 years IMHO. Should serve you well for as long as you need. The Custom Shop 60's Precision pickups are also a great reproduction in my opinion, and some of Fender's overall best. Points for bargaining up too. Respect!

Thanks for the insight! I just assumed CAR based off of what I've seen online, but didn't really think it could be a different version of red.

Candy Cola looks darker, with hints of brown in the red.
I almost bought a Candy Cola P after the color was discontinued because they were offering a discount, but I ended up going with Mystic Red, as shown here.
(very close to Candy Apple Red, but with a little more sparkle in the undercoat)

So it is in fact Candy Cola.

They didn’t make candy Apple red that year. The only Red was candy cola. It’s candy cola.

I have bought exactly that same bass in Mystic Red Sparkle a few weeks ago, NOS from 2013 , with that "different" sticker on it... Saying it has been upgraded with a Custom Shop pickup. It does not say "60's" or something like that.
Is that the same pickup as the "60's"?

Those beautiful beefy modern American Fender P bass necks are simple the best and maybe the strongest necks out there IMHO.
