@Bass V .....Congrats on the score. Fine looking example you have. If you're thinking about tort, here's a sunburst/rosewood I converted to 5 string. It has a custom tort PG made so the pickups mount to it. No rings.View attachment 2942798

thank you, mech, that bass looks rather great too, and the 'shell comes off much better than expected!
my niggle with surface wear isn't an issue. a drop of baby oil did improve the appearance, for the moment anyway.

One of the sexiest finishes I've seen in a while. That burst/grain combo is gorgeous.

yes, I'm quite happy with it and waited a long time for a winner. it seems Peavey gave more consideration to looks when it came to their bursts, most are stunners ...for Peavey. I've seen some horrible grain mismatches or v bland woods on the nats, but my T-20 FL is nice. within the context of being great bass prospects, out of that selective pool I always buy for looks, it assures they won't be ignored for long among the competition cos ya just gotta grab'm and squeeze'm!

the 40's string spacing is certainly wider, that's new to me, thankfully I never get close to the bridge. no probs.

normally yes, I'd prefer the complete pax, this did come with it but was kinda bussup and shipping protection was in mind, then the (op) hassles kicked in and the case became expendable. if you were my neighbor we might deal, but shipping hell has overwhelmed me in recent years. I do appreciate the offer, tho, typical TB coolness!

thank you, I coulda done worse!

scrounged up a mongrel heavy E which never found favor on other basses and BINGO, we got some lows!
and with none of the excessive mid sproingy twang coming from whatever brand / type came with it. probably means replicating a Ric is out, it's huge on that ...bummers, guess I'll just have to get one! but at least I'm on the right path towards a basic and more acceptable tone range for the old classic styles of music I do, tho I have no clue if this is nickle or (most likely) steel, or what core, etc., but it sounds like a thumpin' bass now! at least for the E. I'm smiling.

Beautiful axe! My brother’s got a T20, and although it’s the only Peavey bass I’ve ever layed hands on, I can totally see where all the Peavey love comes from.

That does look really cool without the rings. Kinda reminds me of Mike Lull’s PT-5, the P-Bass with the T-Bird pickups.

here's my morning update...

looks like this is going to take some string experimentation to find the low end I expected to be in abundance.
LaBella Deeps are probably first up. I tune to drop D.
the hated phase switch; as expected, it comes in handy for playing in the apt. where I need to limit the low end yet still sound decent, and with headphones as well. I do get nice bottom thru the 'phones (when I crank the bass knobs) which tells me it must be there and my amps just aren't responding as usual with this circuitry.
seems we got us a work in progress.

btw, do they make mirrored replacement pickguards? hmmm, it might actually be cool on a nat. finish.

The phase switch comes into use when both pickup aren't dimed...
