OK it's got one scratch by the knobs, but I think it looks pretty damn good after 40 years :)

Speaking of the knobs, I replaced the speed knobs with chrome ones from a late 70s Peavey amp. Seemed appropriate.

Truss nut is right there at the top of the cavity, lowww action, plays and sounds so good and I definitely dig the red. Enjoy!

Identical to my first Foundation in color and fingerboard, but mine was an ‘83 or ‘84, so had the metal
knobs with the pointy “P” on top.
I traded it in on a Foundation “S” which I still have. It’s an ‘87 model.

I wish I had kept the first one and just bought another bass, but I was pretty poor at the time…

The Foundations are just a joy to play.

Years back I bought every one that came up for sale. Donated a lot of them to students, churches and schools. Usually paid under $150. Great Basses!!! I still have 4 of them.

BTW.. another thing that makes yours standout... the very rare, brown case liner is still intact!!!

A little hint. get some stick on felt and put it on the plastic case accesory door, it keeps the 7th fret on the back of the neck from getting worn/scratched.

Nice score!

I had a 1983 Sunburst with rosewood board that I bought new at Daddy's Junky Music in Boston, MA.
I played that bass everyday and foolishly sold it, although I sold it to get a Heartfield DR5, which I love and still have...

I remember the A string needed a second string tree to keep it from buzzing, and one of the bridge pieces had rusted a little by the time I sold mine.

It sounded great though, and I never really caught on that the bridge pickup was so far back and that might explain why it sounded different than a Fender Jazz.

I used to roll the volume back a hair and roll the tone to about 3 on the metal knobs and I'd get a great, growly, fat tone.

I have my eye on a bass with the same specs on Reverb....

I also have a newer Foundation with the rectangular bridge and VFL housed single coil pickups, but it is at my drummer's house. That bass is also great, but it's not the same as the older one. I suspect my memory is biased, and that time in my life was pretty magic, but that 1983 Foundation was a great bass to have as my one and only.

I also had a 1985-1986 mahogany natural finish and maple Foundation that I had defretted and I foolishly sold that one too. The day I sold it, the guy I sold it to called me back to thank me for selling him such a nice bass. It had the black speed knobs with the rubber grips. I know the metal ones are more popular, but those Peavey speed knobs were also great.
