NBD: Ampeg or Ibanez

Ampeg BA112:

Reason... As a BA110 (St Louis) owner I know that Ampeg is able to capture the tone of the classic Ampeg in their small practice amps. My BA110 sounds like 1/8 of an SVT. Been reliable for 10 years.

The Ibanez Soundwave series is a little dated compared to the Ibanez Promethean series. I would choose either the P3110 or P3115 to compare to the Ampeg.

I need just a small practice amp for my music room. I can get an Ibanez Soundwave SW65 at 65W or, for the same money, an Ampeg BA112 at 50W. Both have a 12" speaker. Given these choices, which would you choose and why?

Thanks, everyone, for your input. I decided to go with the Ampeg, not only based upon your recommendations, but upon a couple of other factors. Ampeg is, of course, well known for their name and sound, regardless of whether or not they are the same company now as they were decades (or even 10 years) ago. No one that I know of in the bass world has achieved that "Ibanez bass amplifier sound." :) And I do tend to like the old school sound, even if it is in a fairly small box. The other factor is that I probably won't have any problem getting my money back out of the Ampeg, even if it is a combo. Hopefully, in a year or so I'll be ready to upgrade to mid-level hobby 300 watts or so.

Good choice; the BA112 is a very good sounding amp. As far as small amps go, you'd be hard pressed to do better than the BA112
