NBD - And baby makes four.

Well, sort of NBD. I've had this short scale sunburst P bass body for a while and it has had a number of necks. I though I was done with it but it is just so light I can't bring myself to sell it.

So instead, I bought yet another neck for it and increased my collection to four instruments. These are all Warmoth.

L to R:

• G4 Dakota red satin body, wenge / ebony fretless neck, 32" scale, East preamp, TI JF, low 7 lb range.
• Burgundy mist P body, wenge / rosewood neck, 32" scale, P with TI JF low 7 lb range.
• Chambered ash sunburst P body, roasted maple / rosewood neck, 32" scale, P with rounds, under 6.7 lbs.
• G4 body, maple neck, 34" scale, East preamp, rounds, under 8.5 lbs.

Here it is nicely placed in an electric guitar case.

Yes, Gotoh 404 BO's IIRC. Once I cut the low E and A screws shorter, they work great.

Doesn't really matter but are those 5 string P-bass pickups on that burst? Really just curious and not picking on that at all. Still a cool looking bass.

Wilde P46 pickups. Close pole pieces to provide a bar-like magnetic field so they work with 4, 5, or 6 string instruments.

Really good question. I put TruOil on the roasted maple neck and it turned out to be sticky. I've since sanded several times to remove the finish from the back of the neck. It is still a bit sticky so I'm not down to bare wood yet.

yet, with both of the wenge necks I've had to sand (400, 600, 1000, 1500) to get them to not raise the grain due to usage.

So as they sit right now, I like the satin lacquer maple 34" neck the best followed by the wenge necks and then the roasted maple (sticky)

BUT once I get that roasted maple neck sanded bare again, I expect it to be the best of them all.

Great pickups

I wanted something bright and clear as my routine gig / venue colors the bass to be rather dark. And I think the TI Jazz flats benefit from the brighter pickups.

When I first got the roasted neck it was oh, so smooth. I'm trying to get back to that.

I really like the grain on that burst! I had to go back and check the weight because it just looks like it'll be a light but resonant piece of wood.
