NBD - Any LAKERS fans out there?

Soooooooooooo... Like many of You... I've had some "time on my hands." I hope that You're ALL well, SAFE, and happy.

I haven't been playing much. I've been bored. I've never built a bass. I've been selling off a ton of my stuff for about 3 years. I've had some ideas. I'm a HUGE Laker fan. I was working on the Prince "tribute" concert, in DTLA when I heard the devastating news. I'm not a big fan of PURPLE, but the way that Los Angeles was lit up, and seeing the LOVE that the city was filled with, as I walked to my car after work... was AMAZING.

I hate typing. So... without further ado... here's what I did with some stuff that I had lying around, some sandpaper and rattle cans, and probably too much money spent. But... She plays/sounds WONDERFUL.

Thank You KOBE, for the inspiration. The "MAMBA" Bass. You are missed, but NEVER FORGOTTEN... View attachment 4174654 View attachment 4174655 View attachment 4174656 View attachment 4174657 View attachment 4174658 View attachment 4174659 View attachment 4174660

Well, beautiful bass...love the color scheme..very very nice indeed..now for the lakers..
Back in the day I liked the lakers, not my team as I am a bucks fan from the early 80s..BUT how could you not love Kareem( came from the bucks) and the showtime era team..they were fantastic. The NBA was better to watch then imho...the sixers ( dr J, etc) Boston ( bird, mchale, etc) and my bucks ( lanier, moncrief, etc) Lakers ( kareem, magic, coop, etc) Kobe was a legend too..great ball player indeed..nobody can deny his greatness.

I "think" that I put a whole lotta thought into this build, aaaaaaaannnnnnnd in going with the "BLACK Mamba" theme, the closest that I could get to a "snakeskin" look was Carbon Fibre/Graphite. I actually tried gold Res-O-Lites, and liked the Carbon-O-Lite better. And... it gave me a good excuse to spend a little money. Also... I didn't want it to look gaudy. But thanks.

Understood, makes sense.

So what are the specs on the neck and the tuners? Looks all carbon fiber and expensive. Awesome job from end to end!
Howdy!!! Thanks for the positive response. Anyhow, the neck is a Status Graphite, Jazz spec. Tuners/Bridge, are the Gotoh, Carbon-O-Lites. On the bridge, I removed the titanium saddles, and replaced them with brass, for aesthetics. And... on the tuners, I took the gear from gold Res-O-Lites, and swapped them. Yeah... I purchased an extra set of tuners, just for the "LOOK", as GOTOH would not do this for Me. Pickups are EMG GZR's. And... the preamp is a '92 Kubicki, out of a Jazz Bass Special. Graphics were made by Scott, at Guitar-restore.com. This guy RULES!!! She's a heavy one, at 9lbs 13oz, but... balances very well, and I don't mind the weight at all, as I like a SOLID feeling instrument. As a matter of fact, a friend came over and played it. He said "she feels much lighter than she is." I agree. Expensive? This is relative, yes? Anyhow... I had so much fun doing this, that I just started another. STAY TUNED...

Excellent - I have two basses with that awesome pre in them. Nothing sounds like a Factor - :bassist: Also, who makes those cf tuning pegs? Never seen that before.
Thanks!!! I do have 2 Kubicki's. An '86, in Canary Yellow, and a '95 Key Factor, in White. This doesn't sound TOO MUCH like either, but... I do love how ARTICULATE it is. She really "sings."
As far as the tuners go, they are Gotoh, Carbon-O-Lites. Here's a link.

well, you did it right! it's a beauty, and a beautiful tribute as well. glad it was fun for you, and glad that you're off to the races on another one. the cost wouldn't mean much to me either --- if you get what you want, the way you want it = you win! great looking ax --- congratulations on your new instrument!

The P-J pu combo will definitely sound different than 2 humbuckers ala Factor. I had an '86 Ex-Factor in black w/12v pre, and a FCS Ex-Factor in pearl sonic blue w/the 9v pre. I actually prefer the 9v and that's what I have in two of my basses. There was no price listed - what do the CBT-01's go for?

I purchased mine on Reverb. Therefore... as You know... the price can vary.

Pretty badass, and you have excellent taste in pickups, too! :D Are those Geezers? How are they wired?

Very cool! I've sometimes threatened to try to wire in a preamp in one of my Fenders, never took the plunge because I'm happy with them as they are and I'm cheap, but I think it would a pretty cool idea.
Funny... I'm actually considering making My NON EXPORT/Dolphin Grey Aerodyne, active, and adding GZR's, as I have a set "sitting here." I realize that it's a bit of blasphemy, but... it's My least favorite Fender...

They may end up in the 6-8 seed. Honestly, that team looks pretty bad without the two stars.

I’m hoping that Jokic and Lillard can use this time to bolster their MVP cases. I would really like to see one of those two guys get that award.
