NBD: Are these half-round strings?

IIRC GHS manufactures Ken Smith compressors. Same materials, but as noted very slightly different specs. Personally I prefer the black silks on the GHS versions. The Ken Smith ones are purple, and the last set I bought had for slightly different shades of purple, which is just ugly.

I like Pressurewounds on some basses but not others. Really I think each bass has a kind of string that it wants and you have to try things to see what works for that bass.

Love Pressurewounds on fretless basses. Also very nice on my BB734, which is a little bright for a P and that’s tamed nicely with the Pressurewounds.

However, put them on my jazz bass (a BB404 that has DiMarzio Model Js on it) and hated them—just took away too much of the bite and growl. Put GHS steels on it that bass and won’t ever go back. Didn’t care for Pressurewounds on my StingRay, either. YMMV, see what works for you on each bass.

A set of Compressors with mismatched silks... I call them the COVID Edition. The main supplier of silks for GHS went under during the pandemic and they had to scramble to find a suitable alternative. Those sets with mismatched silks will be worth a lot of money in the future as a collector's item.

Thanks, everyone. After some checking I believe you guys are correct. They seem to be GHS Pressurewounds. Normally I wouldn't post this and ask such a simple question but after 30+ years of playing bass it was remarkable to stumble across something I was unfamiliar with. I really do like the strings. They have just a touch of the "clanky" sound flatwounds make but they feel so silky smooth and sound great. Probably gonna leave them on there for now. It's funny this came along when it did. I've been playing D'addario Prosteels on everything for about 20 years now. Recently I bought a USA Geddy Lee Jazz bass and decided to put Rotosounds on it just like he uses. It has reminded me that there are a bunch of strings out there and I've barely tried any of them. Pressurewounds may be the golden ticket for my fretless. Thanks again.

@SC Bassboy that might be one of my previously owned basses. GHS Pressure Wound strings worked well on it however I recall having round wounds on it when trading mine in. Here’s a picture of the one I previously owned just in case it’s a match to yours.

Almost! Mine has a little different grain pattern and came with these basic black volume/tone knobs on it (which I ended up liking). These L-2500 basses are so good. They just thump, man.
