I told myself no new basses in 2025 after buying 3 in 2024. I did not even go a month without buying one. This time I don’t blame me.
My 7 year old daughter had a secret she was “scared” to tell me a few weeks ago. After a few minutes she told me she wants to learn how to play bass. My short scales were a touch too big for her when we tried them (Vintera Mustang and Tribute Fallout). Bought her a purple Ibanez Mikro. Size fits much better.
The bass was surprisingly decent stock except for hum from lack of shielding and bridge single coil pickup. Also had a bit of neck dive. Swapped in EMG Victor Wooten pickup set (PAX and LJVX) and Gotoh Res-O-Lites tuners to solve those issues. Restrung with Daddario short scale tapewound strings.
No idea how much she cares about the mods, but I will appreciate the lack of hum when I am teaching her. I expect her fingers will appreciate the tapewounds next time she practices.
