Now I want one! I like the simplicity, the offset body, and the fact that the J pickup is so far forward. I really hate having a J pickup that is too close to the bridge. Pretty unusable for me personally. This placement makes a lot more sense.

That's an Ergo EUB...which is actually for sale; the cool thing about it is that it's a full size neck, unlike some of the other less expensive EUBs out there.
I'm looking to get $400 plus shipping.

One of my regrets is never pulling the trigger on a Reverend Rumblefish. Love the looks, hear nothing but good things about the tone and playability. Great choice, congrats and enjoy.

The j pup soloed has authority. It's very usable.

Funny you mention that; I was rehearsing with a "little big band" today, playing through my Markbass combo.
Since it was already a boomy room, I found myself favoring the bridge pickup...and to my surprise, it sounded really great—all by it's lonesome!

Good to hear. I'm not a burpy jaco player. I just want my J to provide some more definition but still be pretty solid. Not what most people seem to be looking for.

Hopefully, someone having experience with those three can weigh in on that question for Riff Ranger.
All I can really say is that, like deepestend, I'm not into the burpy Jaco sound—at least not for my style of playing.
The bridge pickup on this bass has much more heft—and is less "nasal-y" than I expected when I soloed it.

I'm glad that it was helpful; however, you might check in with Indiana Mike (above) to get more specific info; he has one, too...and hopefully, is more knowledgeable than I am!
I've been at it for over four decades, and even today, all I can tell you is whether I like a bass or not; I am in awe of the players on TB who know all the technical stuff behind why I might or might not!

(Still off-topic... sorry) +1 for the Ergo EUB! I have that same one in a five-string, also thinking of putting it up for sale, only because I don't play it enough. I've had mine maybe 10 years without a moment's trouble with it. I'm not sure the guy (Jesse Blue) is making them anymore, so they may be getting harder to find.
