There are plenty of 35 year old basses out there that aren't STANK and covered in grime, mould, and undisclosed damage.
True enough! But there are also ones that are beat to crap and people pay top dollar for those. My point was, it doesn't take 7 pages of responses from a bass chat site to determine if he likes the bass or not. Play it or send it back. Personally, I think it is cool!

OP, having looked at the bass in the original post it does appear to be in dreadful condition. If it were a two penny banger you could live with it. If you'd spent any sort of money on it, if be after getting it all back. I sure hope the situation can be resolved to your satisfaction.

Hi @India_Sierra
Thanks mate, absolutely the point I was aiming for with my post.
Stank and grime can be cleaned (or left! Depending and your preference) but I just wanted opinions from those more knowledgable than me. That’s a big reason for coming to Talkbass right?

See, it’s on the treble side of the neck

*Thread is over he sent the bass back, just to keep declaring it, but ...

I've had marks like that when a bass fell over and hit the corner of something sharpish like a stair or the corner of a wall. It wasn't black, but on that bass it's probably something growing in the crack.

Hello to all that see this comment!

I can’t edit my original post for some reason so maybe this will slowly help settle some of the discussions.

the mark on the neck was not a crack. it was a stratch deep enough to get a finger nail in that was filled with God only knows what that had turn black.
