NBD: Danelectro '63

Just want to share this new bass I got. I happen to be gassing for non-fender types vintage style guitars and happen to have bumped (intentionally) into this:

It's weird looking in a cool sort of way. I had a choice of redburst/shortcale or black/longscale and went with this.

Seems to be nicely built, but i had to setup. This thing comes with a nice looking but poorly design bridge, it's difficult/impratically to set-it up.

it also received a ding neark the neck heel area as i had to put-remove the neck from time to time to adjust the truss rod.

I have a very strange and bad dano habit. I buy them. I play them for a week. Take them to a gig. Love, love, love the way they sound. Then they sit in my house for a year (or more), I sell them, and eventually wind up buying another. Then I do it all over again. With whatever the newest model is. Currently have a shortscale which I know is going to be up for grabs soon. And I'm sure this

will be on a UPS truck aimed at my house not too long afterwards. :)

Danelectros sound absolutely amazing in a band setting. They're deep, dark, thick and cut like nobody's business. I had an American P deluxe once, that I hated, and took both basses to a few gigs and ABed them. The band agreed hands down, with no doubts whatsoever that tonewise the dano destroyed the P.

I love it. I had one from around that same era that was a black single cutaway. It was my first bass bought for $40 used. Wish I still had that thing but who new we baby boomers would get all sentimental and start collecting the same stuff we sold 30 years ago, LOL.

I actually bought on of Joes danos. 63 long scale in aqua. put some labella flats on it recently. sounds great. neck diver because of the scale.

Cool bass. I bought a Dano SS longhorn this year after wanting one for a long time. I have gigged it a few times and its a blast to play. It is as light as my Gibson Accoustic guitar and almost feels like a toy but has huge sound from fat to punchy with a simple roll of the tone knobs.

Um...not sure, I may have used that term incorrectly, but I've always called it that. I don't think it refers to the scale, but maybe the hardware. Sometimes when Danelectro puts on adjustable metal saddles instead of the rosewood slab, and sealed tuners, they use the term "pro."
