NBD - DarkRay 5

Sharing because most of the concerns I’ve seen are how flexible is the distortion. Now that I’ve spent two hours with it I’m even more convinced it can definitely do the low grit versus djent thing.

I've got a first run StingRay Special 4H and the comments on fit and finish align with my experience. I typically prefer cleaner tones, so the DarkRay is would not be something I'd be interested in. That being said, I'm really happy EBMM is pushing the envelope and producing innovative items like this. I hope all of these sell and continue the trend of experimentation - fingers crossed for an early 90's Flea signature.

Regardless, GREAT video. You mentioned there wasn't much prep, but the material you provided is what most of us want. I enjoyed the listen - cheers.

Updated straight on shots, much easier to take when wide awake.

Congrats on the new bass. Those look awesome and I have been quite tempted to get on over the last couple of weeks. I do have a MM Bongo in a white sparkle finish which I think they gave it a different name at the time but it might be the same finish.

They called this finish Crescendo for some reason but it appears to be quite similar to the new Darkray.

Yes! These basses can absolutely handle everything from colored gritty tone all the way to djent metal or sludge. I play in a rock band with a similar tone to Fu Manchu. I just gigged my DarkRay 4 this past Friday and it sounded amazing with pick in the Alpha mode heavily favoring the clean.

Well we definitely have proof the darkray wasn’t a one time experiment. The sky is the limit. In the future you could have HH combinations and maybe the Bongo, not to mention even different colors. I’ve said it before, that there is just a magical sound with darkglass and music man basses

Imagine a 6-String Bongo HH with some of these Darkglass toys built in - that would be so badass!

So I’ve had almost three weeks with mine. Love it and I think the Dark Glass preamp may be on to something that mates well. The upper mids on this thing are unlike any Stingray I’ve played before. I’ve played two gigs with it and having the ability to really dial in the A/O has been better than just the pedal experience.

Couldn’t agree more. On my third gig with mine tonight. Loving it as well. Very versatile and the DG preamp is awesome. Easily becoming my number 1.
