NBD: DeArmond Ashbory Bass

Not to argue but I have original strings on my Guilds and they stopped breaking as soon as I put the OEM case aside.
I have sets of all the available strings except the Kahua. The different formulations have their subtle differences.
I gig this fine instrument.
Flying to California a homeland security agent called everyone over to see the bass in the viola case. Turns out he played bass.
I flew from the East Coast to Santa Cruz rented an SWR Bassic Black 1x15 and made serious boom at a low volume performance. Audiences are always craneing to see where that big sound or upright sound is coming from.
Ashborys put out so much fundamental it's crazy.

I have to admit, I am not a huge fan of this instrument. Not since the Kala u-bass came out. I have played both (both were fretless) and though the sound is similar, the Asbury had too many issues and things you needed to work around. The strings were the big problem. Silicon like this is very similar to that used as tubing in slingshots...and they break and eventually deteriorate. The powder is an unpleasant feeling to my fingers. With the Kala u-bass, the scale is similar but those kala strings, like weedwackers for upright, will literally last forever. Something to consider.

Cool little basses. I picked one up a few years ago like new on CL for around 50 bucks with case. The guy bought it, tried to play it a few times and gave up. Now I'm inspired to take mine out of storage and knock around on it. Thanks for the tip on what strings to get, I think the G is broken on mine.
