NBD: EBMM Bongo 6 incoming

I've been GAS:ing for a Bongo 6 ever since seeing DT live in November. Posted about it on a FB bass players' group about the 2024 models, and got a private message from a person selling a used one. Turns out it's literally mint condition in case (along with all the original case candy), he reckons it's either a 2016 or 2017 model. Went to try it out yesterday and instantly fell in love. Put a deposit down towards it and the seller was super chill, he was all like "you pay the rest when you can". Didn't bring it home yesterday, but I got some pictures of it! :) If anyone knows the name of the finish and/or the year it was made, feel free to chime in! Very excited to bring this one home. It has a fenomenal B-string for a 34"! Got a very, very reasonable price on it, as well.

I thought he played Yamaha basses…? I recall seeing Dave LaRie with early Bongo basses - whenever I see them I think of him…

… but what do I know! Haha
He did use to have a Yamaha signature bass but that was quite a while back now. I think he's been using the Bongo since around 2007 or so. But yes, Dave LaRue also used Bongos for a while (and maybe still does). Colin Edwin of Porcupine Tree was also using a Bongo around that time.

Great score and glad you’re happy. I had a 4HH in the Sparkle Sapphire Black that I sometimes regret selling, but so funded my Modulus Q5 sweet spot with it so I can’t complain. Great basses. I’ll probably get a Bongo 6 if I ever get another Bongo. Enjoy it!

I believe it is 17.5 mm. Not the widest, but also not the most narrow.
It's always interesting to note the string spacing at the nut and bridge, and whether measurements are taken center-to-center, or edge-to-edge.

I've found that what matters most to me is the center-to-center string spacing, measured where I pluck the strings while playing.

Makes sense that this plucking sweet spot varies with instrument, p'up placement and type, chosen syrings, and the person playing.

Does anyone make a bass bridge with variable string positioning/spacing? Might be fun to experiment with.

I believe the nut is 57 mm/2.25" wide. 17.5 mm spacing at the bridge. I agree that the spacing at the bridge/plucking hand is what matters most to me; I find that spacing at the nut matters a lot less.
