NBD: Epiphone Embassy Pro

That's really cool. I've always liked the tone of the T-bird, just not a fan of the styling of that bass. But it has a sound that is probably up there with Fender and Ric in the history of rock n roll. It definitely falls inline with them as one of the most iconic basses in history behind the Precision, Jazz, and Ric. Hofner is there too, but only because of Paul McCartney and the Beatles than because of it's use throughout the music industry itself.
Glad to hear you're enjoying your Emperor Pro. If you weren't, though, you'd be an exception because everybody I've met who has one is happy with everything about that bass. Great choice!
I just tried it on a strap. It likes to hang horizontal/parallel with the ground on a slippery 2" nylon strap. So, I'm guessing with a wide and/or grippier strap it would stay wherever you want it.Does it neck dive? I tried one at Sam Ash recently and really liked the feel and sound, but I kept stabbing my fingers on those pokey parts of the knobs.That kind of put me off. Not enough to dismiss it, but it was something I noticed.
*Full disclosure: I'm quite the "roly-poly" and my gut sticks out there pretty good,lol. So that may also be a factor! Haha

You're telling me. I picked up an Epiphone Tbird Classic IV pro at GC about a year ago and it left the store with me within 10 minutes. Expected to hate it but it smokes. Could use more robust hardware, but the build quality and sound is superb. Congrats on your nbd!
I have to say, the TI flats sound superb on this bass (well, for my tastes anyway). Being a vintage-voiced double 'bucker axe (that some may say is a bit darker sounding overall compared to the likes of a Stingray or Jazz), I didn't want flats that would diminish the mids and highs. It seems to my ears that, TI flats are close to a broken-in set of rounds tone wise. Believe it or not, the tension was actually lessened enough that I had to loosen the truss rod a bit to compensate, lol. Usually flats require a crank or two on the rod to flatten it out. At least that's been my typical experience. I realize each manufacturer and set can vary with tension, but these TIs are pretty supple, IMO.
Y'all are some great folks here on TalkBass. I would never have thought too many folks would much care about my recent acquisition. Your kind words and comments are a breath of fresh air! This "Thing called Bass" that we all love is a very personal/subjective matter for most of us. There are as many different preferences (for brands, styles, strings, tones, setups, colors, woods, p'ups, etc., etc.) as there genres of music and venues in which to play. I think that's one of many reasons why TB is so amazing. Such a great community of Bass Brothers and Sisters!

Thank you! Those Classic Pros are sweet boomsticks. Lately, Epiphone has been delivering the classic "Gibson Sound" bass experience at a fraction of the cost, but with very little (if any) loss in quality and craftsmanship. Sure, the hardware and wood selections are a bit nicer on some Gibsons. But there are folks who feel that Epiphone's QC and build quality has become equal to or surpassed many Gibson offerings over the past couple decades. I had really good experiences with all the modern (say around 2005 or more recent) Gibsons I've bought and sold. I didn't sell them because of disappointment or quality, etc.. I simply needed to "thin the herd." But if I'm being completely honest, this new Embassy Pro is right up there with my best/favorite Gibsons so far.
Thanks! Totally agree about recent Epiphone basses. A neck-through T-bird with amazing pickups and solid craftsmanship for under 6 bills?! It's crazy!! As for the Embassy: I say go for it!...........as long as I'm not to blame for any financial hardships that might be incurred as a result, lol.
I've had good and bad experiences with Epiphone. My Riviera was a drag - heavy, dull sounding and the fingerboard was unfinished. My casino is gorgeous- my favorite guitar, but it was not cheap ($ 1700). Enjoy it. A good one at a great price is a wonderful thing.
I have an early '90s Sheraton. it's a beauty and plays as well as it looks.
I stopped by a local guitar shop yesterday to play the new Gibson Les Paul Jr DC that had just arrived. I've been interested in that bass since first seeing photos of it. If it had lived up to my hopes for it, I would've bought it.
I left with this instead:
I really wanted to love the Gibson, and it wasn't bad at all, but I didn't like it nearly as much as the JMJ Mustang that I had for awhile for the same asking price. I'd been intrigued by the Embassy Pro but hadn't played one before, so I tried it and liked it far more than the Gibson. As others have noted, the pickups are fantastic and it came set up really well. Yes, the bridge adjustment issue (or lack thereof) concerns me, but the action and intonation are currently perfect and the overall quality control very good considering the price.
I started playing bass on a Gibson Ripper back in 1977 and traded it for a 66 P bass back in 1981. No regrets about that trade, but I've always wanted to have a Gibson again one day and unmolested Rippers are just too expensive for what they are in my opinion. This Epiphone will do. For $367 new out the door (including a gig bag), it feels like a steal. I replaced the strings with DR Sunbeams and it sounds about as good as the Ric 4003 I had around for awhile on Roundabout and other Chris Squire bits, and likes a bit of overdrive for Entwistle-style fun. It's not going to replace my Tony Franklin fretless P as my main player but it will definitely be getting some stage time.

At least the pickup routs are centered now. The first run had them offset towards the G string.
That's gorgeous! I was torn between the dark cherry and the ivory. They both look great, IMO. That's a great deal for $367 w/ a gigbag! I have been playing mine more than all my other basses combined since getting it. These are killer basses that seem to fly under the radar of most TB'ers. Maybe that's good thing, as it might keep the prices low for the rest of us, lol!
