NBD: Epiphone Thunderbird ‘64

Ooh baby, this is a fun one. Played it at GC, liked it but not for their price, found it online for $100 less, decided it’d be more fun to order one and wait for the truck!
I’ve got a lovely family of three green basses now… Sherwood, Inverness and Hunter. Enjoy!

Congratulations on your new Thunderbird!
I have a couple of these, one Ember Red and the other Sparkle Blue, I like them quite a lot. The voicing of the pickups is a little different from the previous editions of this bass from Epiphone, a bit more bass and fuller in the lo-mids and mids. They also differ in having a slight pitch back to the neck, a production change made when it moved to China from Indonesia. Drop by the club and say hello!

I have a purple sparkle and love it for many reasons, including those pickups. Currently my most played bass.

That blue is so cool. The purple, too.
I love the sound. Bridge pickup with the tone rolled off is especially gnarly!

I played this bad boy at band practice last night and lemme tell you, if you’re on the fence, put on a helmet and fall off the damn fence! Not only does it sound commanding, I got the strap length optimized for next to zero neck dive, and this bass loves pedals. I’m resisting the urge to sell my Nash and get three more T-birds.
I have six Thunderbirds and get by just fine with them. I am going to sell one, but hopefully replace it with a special bird.
