Redesign, etc. may have impacted prices. Inflation probably had a bigger effect. Fancier paint adds cost. They may have gone for more margin as well. But look around - most things have gone up noticeably in price the past few years.The Vintage Pro was made in Indonesia, the '64 is made in China. The Vintage Pro has almost no pitch to the neck, the '64 does have a slight pitch.
This makes the bridge sit higher although there's no change in being able to have a nice, low action. The pickups seem slightly different on the '64 as well, I like them more than the 760s on the Vintage Pro - I traded my VP 760's out for Gibson Re-issues and find them far better in every way. YMMV.
