NBD fail, GC content

Ordered a Squier Active Jazz Deluxe IV in black from GC online. Just as a precaution I have it delivered to my local GC for pick up. Get there today, MY BIRTHDAY, and I see the box is squished a bit on one end. Hmmm. I pull it out and sure enough, there was a tuner that took a hit hard enough to punch through the first layer of cardboard box. I take it out of the box, a string is broken. Looking closer I see the fingerboard is messy, frets have wear, and the end of the fretboard is marked up. Looks like it got stepped on.

Fun stuff. I sent it back, which I half expected to when I ordered it. Now I wait for 3-5 more business days, but at least I didn't have to deal with the return shipping hassle. Not really GC's fault but the fret wear was a little odd. The electronics cover was scratched up too. Still had plastic on the pickups and the finish was fine.

Good thing you had it sent to the GC store instead of being mailed to your house so they can't argue and say that you caused the damage. :)
Wow, you didn't order the Jazz Deluxe Distressed did you? That is a little strange about the fret wear though. Perhaps they boxed up a floor model? I purchased a Sterling Sub from GC brand new - was at my local store when they ordered it for me as they didn't have the color I wanted. So they placed an order, and the salesperson was kind enough to mention that while a nearby store had one in stock, he recommended ordering it from a store that had multiple units in stock. Why? Because that one in stock is inclusive of what's on the floor! So perhaps, that bass you ordered and had shipped to you was indeed one of these well used "New" basses.
