NBD: Fender American Performer Precision

I find the necks on BB-series to be more comfortable to me than a P. It's slightly thinner, something between a J and a P neck. It just feels right in my rather small hands.

Same here. I have a MIA P, MIJ J (both terrific instruments) and a BB434, and I prefer the neck of a BB over both. There is something in this neck that makes it feel instantly right, cannot explain it.

I’m so glad to hear you say that, because I’ve always thought mine had a remarkably comfortable body, but I thought it was just in my head. I figured the body shape would be very standard across all models.

I can't speak for the American models above it. But like you, I believe there is definitely a difference between the American Performer Precision body and the Mexican Player Precision body. It feels thinner to me. Could just be the contours though. And yes, the Performer Precision body is quite comfortable.

I'll try to remember to bring my digital calipers home from work today. Can take some measurements over the weekend between my 2019 Player Precision and 2019 Performer Precision and see what, if any, the differences are.

I put a Di'Marzio noiseless in the J pickup of mine, VAST improvement.

I replaced my pups with Aguilar's hum cancelling PJ set, and replaced the controls with CTS pots and a new Switchcraft jack. So no grease bucket tone circuit. Also have it strung with D'Addario tapewounds. It definitely has a more modern, hi fi sound when played soloed. But in the mix and the voicing on my Mesa D-800+ dialed completely to the right it works really well in any rock setting from old 70s ZZ Top to the latest Foo Fighters. I also use a MXR 85 Bass distortion pedal as part of my setup regardless of which bass I'm playing.
