I've had this American Professional Jazz Bass on my Reverb watch list for over a year. It's a 2018 model that's lightweight (8.4 pounds) with a great looking sunburst finish and why it never sold is beyond me, especially once Bass Central marked the price down to $1,349. The store is only 2.5 hours away for me, but I never made it over there to try it until earlier this week when work took me to just a few miles away.
The bass looked great in person and had a fantastic setup. After a few minutes of playing it I knew it would be leaving with me. The guys at the store were very cool and after pointing out that the fretboard looked a bit dry they hydrated it with some lemon oil and polished the frets.
I'm not really a fan of white/mint pickguards on sunburst basses, so I stopped at my local GC where I knew they had a few tortoiseshell pickguards for this model. These typically retail for around $45 but it rang up at $11.76! I told the salesperson that it was probably a mistake but he said it was the correct price for that item in their system, so who am I to argue?
I've been playing Jazz Basses since I got my first one in 1986 and I have to say that this is probably the nicest one I've owned. It's super comfortable to play and I really like the balanced, articulate sound of these V-Mod pickups. Here's a picture, as required by the covenants of this forum:
