It was nearly $200 off the regular price on musiciansfriend apparently because of blemishes, though I can't find any. The E and A don't line up perfectly with the pole pieces, but I can make new slots in the saddles. I just started playing with it, but so far so good. Based on pictures, a lot of these have poorly matched body wood pieces, but this one looks good. The seam is only really visible on the back. I'll be putting light roto 66's on it and doing a setup but I'm very impressed so far.

Thanks. More observations...the middle two pole pieces are raised. The E and A are flush with the pickup cover. The back of the neck is glossy. That'll get green scotch brited right away. The roto steels are a vast improvement over the stock fender nickels. Intonation is spot on. The tuners aren't great, but just ok. Remembering to unplug it when I set it down will be a challenge.

One notch on each saddle, which are in the wrong spots on the E and A. It looks like two new ones just left of the current slots will do the trick.

That's one issue and the other is that the pickup pan's center detent isn't very well defined. The bass, mids, and treble knobs have a more noticeable click in the middle. Not too bad, but slightly annoying.

I got an American standard maple board neck for it. The jazz neck isn't working for me (it'll be for sale, if anyone's interested).

I'm considering having a little trench routed into the body just under the neck heel for easy truss access. Am I nuts? Is it a terrible idea?

Like on a Lakland bass:

If I had that style of neck on mine (just purchased today) I would do the route. It a sensible mod. In fact I did that on a Precision a few years back.

Yes and I like it just fine :D. It's light like my Aerodyne and sounds solid. Preamp is pretty decent, sounds like a beefy jazz, neck is really nice and is fun to play. Just waiting for my strings to arrive from BSO so I can ditch the factory strings. I just prefer DR Hi Beams on a Jazz. I was able to move some old, unused gear to get it and I'm glad I did.

Nice bass, nice pics (but they sure make my browser unhappy), nice thumbrest too (though I don't do thumbrests).

The neck is from an American standard P. I don't know if those neck pockets are deeper or this one is shallow, but the truss is accessible like this. I was gonna have a channel routed to get at it, but that doesn't seem necessary.
