So, I love the offset body shape of a Jazz, but also the sound of split coil pickups. I don't like too many knobs... I was going to go custom, but for less than the finished body was going to cost, picked up this from evilBay instead. Daphne Blue, 2002/3 model.

Pics are after I'd partially disassembled, as it was pretty filthy. Has anyone ever seen a white pearloid guard go this colour before?! The seller said he bought it 2nd hand, but hadn't changed it. Sometimes pearloid photographs strangely, but this really is a gold shade... Under the knobs looks more white. The body is quite yellowed too, a nice green tint to the Daphne - serious UV/nicotine exposure?

You can buy pearloid in all sorts of colors. I’m partial to the “aged white” kind, which looks quite a bit like yours, and which tells me that, yes, white pearloid can age that way. I’d guess nicotine.

Excellent score! Looks like you’re in the market for a tuner bushing.

Don’t believe that’s nicotine stains due to the evenness. I suspect UV did that to the exposed areas. I have an aluminum bodied Telecaster guitar I bought from a non smoking home only player and it looks the same. Not sure of the maker of the guard. I like it on mine, gives a vintage vibe.

No smoky smell. I was thinking of changing the guard/PU covers (I've seen Daphne Blue Strats with tort guards and cream covers and they look cool), but the current look is growing on me so I'll probably just leave it as is.

My Strat (a surf green Delonge) has a Warmoth white perloid guard that had a slight warp. I left it outside in sunlight under glass to flatten it, and it turned that color.
I quite like it. :)
Enjoy your new bass, I've always liked the Hoppus Jazz...

p.s. not even a Blink fan :D

I always found it amusing that the Blink sig J used the 1pc guard from a cheapie Squier series J.

I could imagine the concept meeting boiling down to "I want a P, wire it directly to jack so its as gnarly as you can get, but make it look like those cheap J's GC used to sell for $100 in the mid 90's bc punk rock".

Yeah, it does seem an odd choice. I don't mind it though. Sonically, it's pretty massive sounding, but I'm not sure the QPs will do it for me in a band setting. The J body with P pickups and neck is perfect for me, I can swap the pickups out if need be :)

Can't stand Hoppus but have had GAS for this bass ever since it came out.
P-pickup, J body. Perfect.

I'm sure you know this already, but in case you don't- make sure the truss rod is fully loose if the bass has no strings on it for any extended period of time. Cool bass. I bet an EMG Geezer would sound killer in it!!

The bass came strung up, the pics were just taken as I was cleaning/testing stuff. Good point about the truss rod though, I've seen a few neck horror shows in my time.

Yeah, I'm really heavily leaning towards the Geezers at this point :thumbsup:
