NBD: Fender P bass- LPB

The mandatory New Bass Day! So my journey as a bass player has taken me to a P Bass. It's the same old story we've heard a million times, right?

I have been playing a Jazz for a while, and just really wanted a nice P bass after I got a cheap one last year. Sold the Jazz, and picked up this bad boy. Still tinkering with the setup, but it is sounding great! It is a MIJ, built in 87.

Those '84-'87 or so MIJ Fenders are some of the best and still can be found under $500.

Yeah, I wish I had found THAT deal, but i wasn't too far off. I had the guy compare it to an American (which I was ready to buy) and he said this one smoked it! I know that is not always the case of course... This one is pretty special.

It has a few scuffs, the fingerboard is going to need a little TLC. I'm going to try F One oil on the exposed wood spots. It looks like someone tried using a cleaner or something in the past, that didn't work well!

Got it setup today, installed a shim (worked great!). I thought it only made sense to use my own business card! Haha

I may very well do it soon. I'm currently in a bit of a busy period at my day job, but I plan on renting a P for a couple weeks in late Dec / early Jan to try it out extensively at rehearsals and gigs. If I like how it feels and sounds through my rig, I'll be joining the club early in 2015!

Congrats - I've been playing my Sadowsky RV4 exclusively now (more or less) since I got it in 2005. Just got a Fender American Precision. Threw on a set of flats, did a truss rod adjustment and away I went. Plugged directly into my tube head/Ampeg cab and BOOM. A great companion to the Sadowsky...
