NBD: Fender Vintera II 50s Precision

Well, it's just a Precision, but it arrived on time from Sweetwater today. Super nicely packed... in a gig bag inside a box stuffed with padding and that box into another larger box with that spray in foam fill stuff. Very impressive.

I got the Desert Sand one. I think the look is subtle and understated, which is what I was hoping for. Setup perfect, frets all nicely smoothed and level. Even the intonation is right.

First impressions... my other bass is a Player P with Thomastiks on it, and I have used nothing but those on every bass I have had for at least the last 10 years. They are way lower tension than the Fender roundwounds that came on this bass, so I can really feel the extra effort it takes to play these.

The maple neck has some subtle color patterning that goes all the way through (it shows on the back of the neck and the fingerboard). I like it.

The pic was taken by Sweetwater, but it is of my bass.

Well the flats arrived today (LaBella 760FL). Wow. Very impressed with this bass. I have used lots of Thomastiks on previous basses and have a set on my Player P, but these LBs are so smooth, both to the touch and the ears. The neck relief sems about right but I wouldn't be surprised if it changes some in the next few days after the string change.

I am really delighted!

I tried TI's too. They sound a bit dull on the Vintera(V1). Took a chance on a set of LaBella Tapewounds. They feel great on the chunky neck and they really suit the voicing of the pickup.

Totally different compared to my MIA with old LaBella flats. It's nice to have a different flavour Precision.

Congrats on the new bass. It looks really nice..

I do not like TIs on a P bass, J bass yes. P bass gets LaBella. LTF for me.

Do yourself a favor, rub a SMALL < pea sized amount of Eucerin hand cream into your hands, then onto the strings, then wipe them down once with a dry cloth. You just aged your strings 2 years in 5 minutes. PLUS, makes them sooooo slick to play.

Repeat again if you feel the need. I usually do that about 5-6 times.
