NBD: G&L LB100 Fullerton Deluxe

After months of wondering what life would be like with a p-bass, I broke down and bought a new G&L SB100 Fullerton Deluxe in shoreline gold. My garage band plays classic rock (Grand funk railroad, CCR, Lynyrd Skynyrd..) and I am very happy with how this bass sounds in the mix.

Same model as the bass I played in high school jazz band/chorus/theater band. It brings back good memories. The fat neck will take some getting used to after 15+ years playing my jazz bass, but I find it pretty comfortable so far. I have big hands and feel my fingers have less room to stray. I am needing to dial out the harsh new string tone on my GK rb400 but so far I am very happy with the p-bass tone. I am especially pleased with how articulate notes above the 12th sound.

I bought from a guitar shop 4 hours away but off reverb. Very happy with the experience and shipped overnight. I only wish it was more gold colored and less silver. I think it would make the tort pop more. It looks killer under different stage lights.

I played a friends vintage fender p-bass with flats/foam this summer and intended on putting flats/foam on this one, but am enjoying the OEM rounds and don’t wanna mess with this factory set up. It’s perfect and sounds very rock and roll. Now all I need is a vintage all tube amp.

The LB100 is a great bass. I had one and compared it head to head with a Fender USA P bass. The G&L had less neck dive and sounded ever so slightly better to my ears. Mine had the 1.5" wide neck and it was more to my liking than the Fender. Fender got sold.

And shoreline gold is the bomb!!

PB with rounds = Highly underrated.

I haven’t had a bass with flat wounds in the last 45 years. Zero complaints from band mates or sound engineers. After all that time, all the gigs and recording sessions, there was one keyboard player that showed up before a rehearsal session once asked me, as I was getting it out of the case, why I didn’t have flats. After I plugged in in hit one note he went, “Wow, I get it now.” and that was it.

Medium C neck 9.5 radius. Not sure how that compares to other C necks but feels like a baseball bat in my hands compared to my other D necks.

That’s good to hear. G&L basses get great reviews. I wanted to try some different models out when I started shopping but live in a small isolated western town and did not see driving 3+ hours to try some different basses out anytime soon. So I went back to my ex-bass.

Lots of shoreline gold fans out there! I am also partial to purple sparkle , bubinga natural, dark green sparkle, and shell pink. I almost pulled the trigger on a shell pink p-bass but when it came time to make the purchase I did not think it was rock and roll enough.
