NBD! G&L M2000 Tribute!!!

I had a similar experience to you. But the bass that I got was an abused floor model or Guitar Center employee trying to return his to get a new one. As soon as I returned it I got a brand new one, it is absolutely perfect, the neck is perfect, all the frets are perfect, and it plays amazing. There is no deadness to the E string, and it just thumps. A great bass for the money. Dare I say, it beats my Ray 34.

Glad I ran across this.. Was about to buy one of these, and was having a hard time finding any info.. Looks like I might steer clear!

Well it's a great bass if you can find a good one. Quality issues and weight are the reasons I'm not keeping this one, and I can't afford $50 shipping to keep sending them back hoping to get a good one. I seriously considered that USA M2000 for $1100 that was liked a few posts back, but I realllly like the bound and carved top body available only on the Tributes.

This one has bad electronics, weighs 10 pounds, looks used, and I have not been able to get it set up without buzzing. I really think it needs a shim to tilt the neck back. Damn thing sounds good though.

strings make a HUGE difference with any bass but with mfd equipped basses i find the difference even more exaggerated.

I will agree with this 100%. Changing string brands made a big difference on my SB-2. The MFD pickups really amplify the nuances of strings. After trying a few different brands, I found that DR Sunbeams got me closer to the tone I was looking for.

Would it surprise you to know that your G&L, your Lakland and all the Sterling by Musicmans that you don't rate are all made in the same factory?!!

There is a night & day difference between this Tribute and my Lakland. It's obvious that the Laklands get a LOT of attention in the Chicago factory before going to the customer, but of course they cost more.

I don't normally reply to old threads but I need to share my experiences.

I own a Lakland 44-01, Sterling by Music man ray35 and 5.........yes 5 G&L Tribute basses (2x L2500, 2x LB100 and 1 JB4). The G&L Tributes are all excellent instruments and value for money. All of mine arrived perfect. I'm in the market for yet another.

Cool, been looking for a tribute m2000. I like the slightly narrow neck opposed to the L

Sorry to hear about your experience with the M-2000 Tribute. I own M-2500 and L-2500 Tribute models, both purchased from my local musical instrument store. Both are excellent bass guitars! I’ve had the M for 2 years and the L for 1 1/2 years. Please don’t judge the M model by your experience. Mine is probably my favorite and most versatile bass. The M almost always has someone from the audience comment on how good it sounds. My M-2500 weighs 9.75# and the L-2500 weighs 9.25#. Curiously the M body is thicker than the L.
In summary, I wouldn’t be without either however the M really makes tone adjustments easy using the pickup pan control plus the active 3 band eq. Here’s gratuitous photos of my Tributes.

I am jealous ! Been watching reverb and GC for a good deal for a trib. M2000. I have been watching one on reverb but the seller is not a good communicator. Thinking about a new one instead.
