NBD - G&L M2000

I never go to Guitar Center. And I never buy from them either. No real hate, just don’t do it. However, I recently picked up an extra part time job there to earn some extra cash.

Been there a couple weeks and this used G&L M2000 caught my eye. Was working the closing shift, towards the end of the night and it’s not busy so decided to try it out. And holy smokes this is awesome! I thought man I don’t have the money right now I’ll have to buy a new one later when I have some money and use my discount.

Come to find the M2000 is no longer in production. And I have had some L2500’s and they are nice. But the M2000 just grabbed me so much differently. I could not stop thinking about it. Decided screw it, and jumped on it.

I got my 4 and 5 string L2X00 pair later. I love them all!

That is absolutely gorgeous!! Love the blue and the grain showing through. I really love my L-2000's but would love to get my hands on a used M-2000 some day.

Welcome to the club! I think the M-series flew under the radar as it didn't have the mystique of the L-series, but man are they fantastic basses. I have a '14 M-2000 that I ordered new, and it has been my No. 1, go-to bass since then. I also have a L-series fretless and a JB, so I am a bit of a G&L fanboy...

The stock nut width was 1 5/8" with a 12" radius, but you could order 1 1/2" or 1 3/4" nut widths and 9.5" or 7.5" radius options. But I believe somewhere around '19-'20 G&L started using 9.5" radius as standard on everything. If the seller has the build sheet it should be listed on there.

I have the 1 1/2" nut / 12" radius combo and it is fantastic. Slightly chunkier than the MIJ '62 reissue Jazz I had, but so fast and so smooth. I also have a G&L jazz bass with the same nut width and radius, and it's also great.

To a layman, what's the difference between the M-2000 and the L-2000? I don't know enough about G&L basses generally to understand the copy on their website.

G&L is one of those manufacturers that, when I grab one, I am suddenly very comfortable and happy.

Im not sure the technical difference. Pickups are slightly different. Different Preamp. Doesn’t have the switches. The M2000 is more intuitive to me as I e played several others with similar setups. The L2000 has a bunch of switches I don’t know what they do.

Love my M2500! Also, my SB2, and Kiloton5. Play that thing with joy! G&L's are the best bang for the buck, in my opinion.
