Congrats to OP! I liked the Tribute LB-100 so much, I have a Tribute JB on backorder. G&L quality is incredible. Enjoy.
I always get 2 or 3 pickguards so I can switch them out when I get complacent. Cheaper than buying more basses than I need. Yours already looks good so what could go wrong? Nice score OP!
Yup, my Tribby too was similar with the white pearl pickguard. I guess the newer SB2s have solid colors?
It looks like according to the G&L website that the Tribute SB2s are ONLY available in solid colors--Frost Black or Sonic Blue. Didn't they used to have a sunburst Tribute SB2?
I was blown away by the K-ton. Three distinctly different sounds from one passive pickup. And they're all great. I love mine.
If memory serves, the original run of Tribute SB-2s included 3-tone sunburst, cherry burst, natural or amber, candy apple red and lake placid blue, some with maple fretboards and some with rosewood. This was a very short run. When they settled into the production, it was gloss black or Bordeaux red, both with rosewood boards. At some point, the gloss black went to matte, the Bordeaux red was dropped in favor of white, the eventually the white was dropped for sonic blue with maple board.
On a light bass I’d put a dark PG, I like contrast. Black, maybe tort.
I have the same Tribute SB2 and it not only is a looker but a very nice player as well. I think the OP did an outstanding job in his selection and his negotiating skills. Have fun and rock on!
I’d love to find one. I had a CAR, and those are as rare as hen’s teeth. Foolishly sold it. So the Bordeaux red is still the more accessible option.
If I’m ever asked what one bass I’d want back that I’ve sold, without thinking, the answer would be my CAR Tribute SB-2.
To the OP, congrats, because the Trib SB-2s are one of the best basses at that price point IMO.
You want to stay far away from all the different white pickguards unless you want your bass to look like all the other Sonic Blue SB-2s out there.
