Haha I like to think of it as a thunderbird that was held over a candle long enough for it to turn black and become a little wavey :cool:

And while we're on the subject of RD guitars, have you seen the white one that one of the nameless ghouls from Ghost uses? If they made a bass version of that, the world would be a perfect place :smug:

I used to have an RD standard I picked up around '97 and got rid of in '06. It was a re-fin so I refinished it(with lotzza help) in transparent red. I really loved the sound of that bass, but I hurt my back and it was so heavy I rarely played it and never took it to gigs! I eventually sold it to help pay for repairs to the house...or was it the car? I don't remember, I wish I still had it though.

A red RD must have looked awesome!!! Its a shame you couldn't gig with it tho. Since I'm planning to use this bass live, I think I'm gonna invest in an extra wide strap. One weird thing about this bass is that when you play it sitting down, due to the shape of the bass, it is awkward to play over the neck pickup...

No, mine was all good, I do my own set ups though.. Sounds like you might just need a decent setup

Even though its 3am right now, I decided to try one last thing; I set the neck up properly then I raised the action pretty high. I then lowered it gradually, regularly checking for any sort of fret buzz on all frets, making sure the bass remained in tune as the action was lowered. Now the action is about half it once was and the fret buzz has completely disappeared. However, the action still isn't as low as my Aerodyne, but that bass has ridiculously low action that stays constant all along the neck. To be honest, I'll probably never find a bass that plays as sweet as that 'dyne ;)

Haha I can stand up and play this bass for about 15 minutes without my shoulder getting sore but I am using a strap that is less than two inches wide as, since all my other basses are pretty lightweight (heaviest bass apart from the rd is probably my deluxe active Squier which I think was 10lb 4oz (even though it was made of basswood...)) I never had the need to purchase a 3+ inch strap :p

My heaviest bass is a 70's Jazz copy. Despite being made of ply, it weighs well in over 5kg. I couldn't find any straps wide enough for it, and so modified a 4 inch leather belt that used to belong to my grandmother so I could stand it for a few hours. Had some great 60's spiral patterns on it.

Whoah! That's heavier than my RD! After how long did your shoulder start to hurt? Also, do you have any pictures? I would love to see the bass in question :)
