NBD: Gibson LP Jr DC Tribute

The bass I ordered arrived today and I played it for an hour at lunch.

The previous owner had flatwounds on it (and weirdly many wraps on the low E tuner). I've already decided to replace them with rounds to get a bit more bite, but I could definitely see myself getting along just fine with one pickup for how I play (rock with overdrive and a heavy pick).

Haha yeah it's in a bright crowded room, so the seemingly-artistic angle of the photo was actually just an attempt at a less distracting reflection.

Also these strings really smell. At least I think it's the strings. There's a sort of chemical smell. Is that a thing with flatwounds or what is going on?

It smells more like gasoline than sweat. Maybe the store cleaned the strings with something. If it doesn't go away after a string change, I'll contact the store to figure out what's going on, but I'm pretty sure it's the strings.

Nickle has a metallic odor, but not gasoline odor. I left a Bass at a friends house once, and only once. He played on it afted eating pizza and not washing his hands. I was not amused.

By chance I found a comment on another thread saying that Chromes can feel a bit sticky at first. I'm wondering now if the previous owner put some sort of string lube on it to alleviate that.
