NBD. Greco SAB-120 (EB-2)

Gday folks,
Well this is my second NBD in a week. Not bad for a guitar player eh?….
I’ve been in the lookout for a nice semi hollow bass for a while now, this one popped up locally last night, so I jumped on it.
Nice thick neck, Good solid feeling bass, not like some of the recent MIC semi hollows I’ve handled lately.

Came strung with flatwounds, gets a nice warm sound with a lovely hollow body resonance. Really happy with it.

It’s a very cool bass.

Cheers, Scott.

Nice! It must have a really bassy sound, with just one pickup right up against the neck. Is it 34" scale length?

Lovely looking bass indeed, but are you sure about it being long scale ? Presuming that the body is the same size as an actual EB-2, the bridge would have to sit further back by a lot on a 34" unit.

Play it in good health and enjoy!
Hi mate.
Just went and measured it. Definitely 34”. 👍

Had a bit of a Semi-Hollow evening. Laid down some bass through the loop pedal with the Greco and played some guitar over it with the Tokai.

Sounded sweet and was great fun!

Cheers, Scott.

I'm bemused by that 34" scale, especially since the EB-2 and pretty much every other hollowbody or semi-hollowbody of the sixties except Gretsch used 30.5" or thereabouts. But then Dillion's much more recent 335-004 basses were basically long-scale EB-2DCs.

Great looking bass though. Grecos of any age and type rarely make it into my neck of the woods.

Sick bass! How’s the balance? Being semi-hollow and long scale sounds like a recipe for neck dive.
Hi mate,
Balances great on my leg whilst sitting down, which is how it will be used in my possession anyway. Seems to be made for it. On a strap standing up is another matter. I can use my right forearm to hold it in place put I wouldn’t want to be doing a long gig with it.

Cheers, Scott.

Hi mate, yeah when I first found out it was full scale I nearly didn’t buy it, but I decided to go look at it based purely on cool factor. When I got there and had it in my hand it was sold. It’s in excellent condition, and played really well. And as mentioned in the previous post it plays really nice whilst sitting down, which is fine by me as I don’t gig anymore anyway.

Even if I did I think it’d be a good bass to take along to an acoustic/Roots music jam, it’s got double bass vibes with the flatwounds onboard.

It’s very different from my P-Bass. Which is cool by me.

Cheers, Scott.

I would have loved to bond with my Dillions, especially since I've regretted that Gibson never made a long-scale EB-2. Love the neck on the Dillions, but they are just too heavy and even with the center block exhibit bad neck dive on a strap. If I were resigned to playing only seated it might be a different story; but even there, in terms of tone the big ol' Gretsches just have more character.

Definitely 34 - I have one. The pickup is a single coil under a mudbucker cover, so it’s a completely different and much cooler bass - possibly unique.
