NBD: Heartfield DR5 (Fender)

I love mine still, and the tone controls while a little non intuitive get a tone of cool tones.
Got mine for half price when they went out of production. Loved the feel but was never 100% on board with the preamp. Good at what it does but not that versatile. Good excuse to slap the bass in a country band I guess.

Took it out eventually. Played it passive for a number of years. Eventually got sick of the low output EMGs so I put An East Uni Pre in it.

Now I really got something.

RE: pickups.

A friend has loaned me his DR5, and as I did some research, found the serial registry fan page. They indicate that EMG made these pickups.
I was answering a pm after posting a photo of mine and mentioned the EMGs because that was the conventional wisdom. Bloke said he'd been in touch with that company and they denied having anything to do with Heartfield basses.

Could be just an easier answer to pronounce than "I don't know."

Inquiring minds want to know. Hopefully one of the many helpful folks on TB can give some input/suggestions.

After making that post, I found this on the Heartfield Club thread. I ordered one; I’ll let you know how it works. Shop around, I found one on ebay for under $30 delivered. Unfortunately, it seems they all come from Japan, so be prepared for a long wait.
ESP BATTERY BOX 9-volt Battery Box for Electric Guitar Bass Stainless Steel

Got the battery box and sent it to my luthier in Katy, who's currently sorting out the neck issue. He confirms that it's a direct drop in, no mods needed. Woo hoo!
