NBD Highway One P

Or at least I think it's a one, not a 1. It's a 2006 according to the serial number and it has the BA2 bridge. That's the one, right? Are these considered better than the 1's? Do these have graphite reinforced necks? There's no skunk stripe in the back and the truss adjusts at the heel like an American standard. Anyway, here it is:

I think it's nitro. It's beat to hell. That makes it a 1 and not a one?

Or is it highway and hwy?

I want to know for sure because I'm likely selling the body and want to accurately represent it and I really just wanted a graphite reinforced neck for my pj.

If it's a 2006 US bass and it doesn't feel glossy and shiny like urethane, it's probably nitro and it's got all the specs of a Highway1. Not sure what you mean about one or 1 though...didn't know there was a difference. I assume it was semantics no?

Unrelated, I think the pickup's been replaced. The originals had flat poles, not the vintage style ones. Probably a good thing really.

Based on what I'm reading, there was a highway 1 and a highway one.

One had the badass and one didn't and there may have been other differences of which I'm not aware.

And it also may have been hwy and highway, not one and 1. It's confusing.

Good for you for doing your homework. I'm not sure either way, I remember them coming out, but I was GAS-less that whole time, so I didn't try one.

Pointless either way. Go play the hell out of that little lady.

nope .. this is an 'upgraded' Hwy One ... first year of it if '06, should have the dime size 60th medallion on back of headstock if '06, other wise could be early '07 .. this is nitrocellulose lacquer finish, graphite wrapped support rods in the neck ... completely different bass than the earlier Hwy 1 ...

Gorn: .. 'better' is subjective .. lets just say the component value of a Hwy One is significantly higher than a Hwy 1 ... and that should translate into the resale value of a Hwy One should be significantly higher as well ... but doesn't seem to nescessarily translate that way as many do not know the difference ...

Concur with TJH. The Highway 1 had a bent metal bridge and didn't have the 70s logo or the graphite rods. I had a Highway One Jazz, and it was badass.

I'm curious what that body is gonna go for when parted out. Not too keen on Badass bridges, though. If you were to pull it, would a Fender vintage style bridge fit the same screw holes?

Yes a BAII and vintage Fender style bridge are interchangeable.

Very cool bass in a super desirable color. Looks like the pickups might be 62 Originals, though I don't think those were stock on that bass. Kudos for finding one with heel adjust as well!

Either way, great find, and the standard or vintage bent plate Fender bridge is a direct retrofit part with the Badass II bridge. I swapped out the original Badass II on my Nate Mendel P Bass, and there were no issues.

.. the original Hwy 1 body was not poly .. it was a very thin acrylic lacquer .. the Greasebucket tone circuitry was introduced for the final year of that run ...

Those go for between $500-$600 used it seems. In 2010 lots of us picked them up for around $440 new shipped from Music123, I bought a P and a J. These usually sell more then the earlier models as TJH pointed out. Mainly because of the Badass and the neck is essentially a american standard neck but with a 70s logo and MIM style Fender tuners.

The honey blonde seems to be the most valuable, stick the Badass on ebay if you are not going to use it. Thats one with grooved saddles which usually go for more then the standard ones by about $20-25. I ran a search on BA II's on eBay yesterday unopened ones sold for $150 and $160 and used ones went for $93 and $96, none had grooved saddles. The Body in that nitro should net a nice price here if I was wanting a P and not PJ I would send you a offer.

.. as mentioned, they are a direct fit for each other .. the caveat with the thin finish of the Hwy 1 and Ones is that the larger base BAII has left an impression in some cases that may show when switching to the smaller simple bent plate style bridge ...
