I received my eagerly awaited Fender American Standard Precision this morning in the mail.

It's everything I was hoping it would be - great neck, very light, comfortable, sounds awesome - in other words, perfect. I'm completely smitten and hoping to be playing this for many years to come.

And I got it for a super sweet price as it's the last of the 2011 models with the anniversary neck plate. Brand spanking new, including case, candy and free delivery for a smidge over $900.

I like the tort guard, but I think black might look better so I've ordered one and it's on the way. Also got a set of Elixirs on the way to try out on it.

The only bad thing that's come of this is now I want another, in black/black/maple, but it will be a few years before I can get the cash together for another!

Photos - in my excitement I haven't yet removed the covers on the tuners or the sticker on the pickguard :D

They're very different animals to be honest so it's hard to compare but I'll give it a whirl :)

The Warwick is an excellent bass and very well made, sounds nice, but there's too much knob twiddling for my liking to be able to get the tone I want. Plus the neck is very different - jazz nut width but massive front to back. And finally, that upper horn doesn't work too well with ladies upper anatomy, if you know what I mean :D

The P seems to have better balance and is slightly lighter, the tone I want is right there, the wider but slimmer profile neck is comfortable... it's a fantastic bass.

congrats!!! Beautiful bass. Gorgeous, I'd say!

Now, my friend: this white beauty is "the one", to you; but even if you don't know it yet, somewhere out there there's "the second" and also "the third". "The fourth" will be manufactured on the next month while "the fifth" was built ten years ago... etc....

I have a 2011 P5. I got it for nearly the same price. LOVE the bass. The neck is like silk. Love the 60th anniversary plate too. Hard to believe there are people out there playing P basses that are older than the first one ever made. Pretty cool deal playing such a young instrument.

I love Warwick sound (and even the looks!), but I absolutely love Fender feel. That's why I'm jonesing for a Lakland, I feel it's closer to how I'd like a Warwick/pseudo "hi fi" bass to sound than a Fender.

Glad you dig it! They just have to work on a Fender with a giant, useless horn jutting out to make you feel at home ;)

You could always emulate Simonon (of the Clash) and write "EVIL UNDEAD" on a black pickguard, or something along those lines. I generally hate stickers/everything flashy but I think the "POSITIVE" and "PRESSURE" fonts were pretty awesome.
