Reach out to reverb if you wanna replace it, if the bass didn't show up as described you should have rights to send it back.

I'd say you can just replace the pots and be done with it, maybe he can cover that cost.

Yea, I thought the whole point of a Modulus was the graphite neck's stability. I don't know if there's an adjustment.

If you are anywhere close to the DFW, Texas area I would be happy to help you fix these issues. DM me if you are The parts for the electronics are readily available and inexpensive. If you were to pay a shop for the work it should cost you no more that $50 for the pots, solder point cleanup and possibly a new jack. A setup for the action, truss, and intonation should run you $100 at a shop.

It isn't something I know how to even begin doing. Do you think it would be expensive? As long as I've been playing, (over 30 years) it isn't something I've ever encountered.

Try contact cleaner first. Or you can take it to a tech to get the pots changed. It's not at all expensive.

I have a Telecaster guitar with scratchy pots and if I played guitar more I'd swap them out and may get round to doing it when it's out of storage or use contact cleaner again. It's not 30 years old and has good quality pots in it, but spent some time in smoky environments back when that happened at gigs.

I'm on page 8 of this business and still don't know if the bass has a truss rod! I had a Modulus many years ago. It came new with an nonadjustable bow in the neck. Not horrible, but not good enough. I took it to my bass wizard who was able to use an electric sander to "even out" the neck. I was lucky it wasn't worse. So... Unless you play like a Neanderthal, you're probably going to need to straighten the neck somehow.

What are you talking about? No fuss, no muss. The seller will cover shipping fees. Reverb will facilitate everything smoothly if he contacts them promptly.

I don't buy that he's going to straighten that neck satisfactorily. It's obviously been poorly cared for - stored for a long time with strings under tension. Who knows what else? I've reshaped a neck, but not on something supposedly perfect. The pots aren't just scratchy but sound like they were damaged on install by too much heat.

If he starts mucking with it or passes his window, he's an owner, for better or worse, unless green lighted by Reverb.

I have to admit I skim-read some posts as the whole thread got quite long, but TL;DR, as far as I understood, you bought a second-hand Squier from a delivery guy, which turned out to be without truss-rod.

That kind of sucks, yeah. I didn't think they would start cutting corners on such structural parts of an instrument.

I agree with all of this. I contacted the seller immediately and told him the issues. He said he contacted reverb about it almost like he's expecting it come back. I just got it yesterday. I told him I want to take it to my tech and get his opinion, which I'm doing today after work. If he tells me the neck is screwed then it'll get boxed up tonight will be gone as soon as I get an agreement in place that puts my money back in my account. Oh and flipping it...the seller says he bought it in 2000. He says he bought it from a store and still has the receipt.its a '93 so taking the seller at his word, who knows beyond when he bought it. But he did say he hasn't played it for a while. So I imagine it's been sitting in his closet for a long time.
