UPDATE:
We are still very much in love! I decided to throw some tape wound strings on her as I felt I was getting to much overtone with rounds, and I’m not a fan of flats. Easily one of the best bass tones I’ve ever achieved. I keep the bass in the 50 setting when using compression, but 500 when not using compression. I can’t say enough about the quality of this bass. As I said in my OP, I’ve played an original Gibson and I like this better. One thing I’ll say is the fingerboard did need a bit of oiling, more than usual. Not a problem for me, I enjoy caring for instruments rather than treating them like a skateboard. Not sure if it’s Laurel or Rosewood, the specs on the Ebony model say Rosewood but who knows. Also, contrary to most, I have no issues with the 3 point bridge….Rickenbacker’s design is far worse. I can’t wait to see what the new limited color will be! I may have to get another and throw an Electar pickup in the bridge position!!!!!
