The bass arrived this morning. Firstly, it's a lot better than the Epiphone EB-3 bass I started on a few years ago. It's a lot more comfortable to play, the neck dive isn't anywhere near as bad: it does dive a few inches before it stops whereas my epiphone would hit the ground every chance it got. Luckily the jackson also sticks out a bit so as long as I had my arm on the body, it wouldn't be a problem. The knobs are volume, volume, tone. I personally prefer the sound of both pickups with the tone all the way up, it suits my music perfectly. I used my Blackstar ID:15 because I can't afford the bass amp yet but that should be a few weeks away.
The neck feels great, it's easy to play fast riffs which is great for me and it's not glossy which I also like. I'd say it's something like a fat D shape, it's thicker than Jackson's guitar necks and it's still a compound radius so it flattens out quite nicely the further up the neck you go. It's also intonated perfectly out of the box too, which is nice however it did need tuning. At a glance there were no fret problems and I didn't feel anything unusual so that's all good. There's 21 frets and I don't have too much trouble reaching that 21st fret but I have relatively short fingers so I'm sure pretty much anyone else here wouldn't have a problem.
The bridge pickup sounds bright and "middy" I guess would be the way to describe it. The neck pickup is warm, punchy and complements the bridge pickup wonderfully, they really sound great together and both pickups full volume sounds great with my particular music. It's just a really fun, great sounding bass. It usually sells for £350 but I got mine from Red Dog Music in Edinburgh for £219 because of a clearance sale. I think it's worth £350, it's so easy to play on and it holds it's tuning great too, and I'm quite a heavy handed player.
I do play with a pick, being a lefty playing right handed, it does make stuff like finger picking and slap quite hard, I hurt my thumb trying to slap haha. I wish I could do a sound demo but my audio interface stopped working and I'm getting a new one in a month because I can't afford a decent one right now. I hope you guys enjoyed this NBD/review thing and that you can see the pictures okay. I will say that it looks like the headstock in colour, for some reason the colour of the body didn't come out right on my phone. Thanks for reading!
